3 movement modalities that keep me mobile and energised despite my dysautonomia.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga focuses on long held passive postures with the support of props and help of gravity to target deep connective tissue, fluid systems and energy meridians to promote flexibility, mindfulness, energy & breath awareness. By emphasising doing little, surrender, mindfulness, and breathing well, we can maintain our flexibility without over exertion.
Feldenkrais
Cultivating awareness through movement, the Feldenkrais method focuses on relaxation and settling the nervous system in order for the brain-body to create new neural pathways for more seamless movement patterns. Focus is on less doing, more feeling- using minimal effort for greatest returns. The predominantly floor based exercises are ideal for those with dysautonomia that affects HR or balance.
Chi Gong/ Qi Gong
The Chinese method of "meditation in motion". Chi Gong teaches smooth movement and sometimes static postures, deep and relaxed breathing, and sustained inward focus to promote better circulation, flexibility, and the cultivation of Chi- or life force energy. Practice can be short single poses, or sequences of gentle or more dynamic movement- depending on exercise tolerance that day.
