The school holidays are at an end here in Scotland – so now is the time to put yourself first again.

Many of you will have been carrying around ni**les or aches all holiday, putting them to the bottom of the list while you spin all the plates and juggle looking after the kids for 7 weeks.

But if you keep ignoring them a ni**le can become a much bigger issue. So now is the time to invest in yourself again and head into autumn feeling rejuvenated and fully fit.

My clinic spaces in Crieff and Oban are available to book either online (Crieff) or via a direct message (Oban).

Are you heading off on holiday soon?

Holidays are for relaxing and unwinding – but long travel times, coupled with changes to your usual routine might leave you feeling stiff or sore.

Here are a few of my suggestions to keep your body happy while you’re away:

Stretch every day – even 5–10 minutes can make a difference.
Move often – take short walks, swim, or explore on foot to keep circulation flowing.
Stay hydrated – your joints and muscles will thank you.
Listen to your body – rest when you need to and don’t push through pain.

Bowen Therapy works to restore balance, ease tension, and improve mobility. If you would like a post-holiday reset, do get in touch – your body will appreciate it!

This week, the wellness world is buzzing with the resurgence of Ayurveda, the ancient science of vitality through mindful rituals, and nourishing herbs like Ashwagandha (a natural adaptogenic, helping the body de-stress).

If you’re planning to be away this month, you might want to consider introducing some Ayurvedic-inspired habits while you’re pausing from your regular Bowen treatments. Here’s a mini travel “ritual”:

• Start your day with warmth: sip a simple herbal infusion (Ashwaghanda powder is easy to buy online or in high street shops) to support well-being.
• Evening: a gentle self-massage using warm oil can soothe muscles, calm the mind, and prepare your body for rest.
• Remember to book your next Bowen session for when you return – feeling relaxed after a break away is the perfect time to invest in your wellness.

When the temperature rises, our bodies respond in fascinating ways, some good, some less so:

- Increased flexibility – warm muscles are more pliable, which can make stretching and movement feel easier.
- Risk of dehydration – sweating more means losing fluids (and electrolytes), which can lead to muscle cramps or fatigue.
- Energy dips – your body works harder to regulate its temperature, which can leave you feeling sluggish.
- Swelling & stiffness – heat can cause fluid to pool in your extremities, affecting how freely you move.

How to support your body when it’s hot:
• Drink plenty of water (add a pinch of salt for extra hydration support).
• Move in the cooler parts of the day.
• Include gentle stretching and mobility work to keep joints happy.

If you’re heading away on holiday, especially if it’s an active one, remember to book a session before and after to make the most of your time off.

The food and drink trends taking the world by storm in 2025 include some familiar names – bone broth, turmeric lattes, probiotic drinks, kefir, lion’s mane mushrooms.

The world of TikTok has also brought us cloud bread (more like meringue than bread, and made with egg whites, cornstarch, and sugar, and usually dyed a pastel shade) and chaos cakes (intentionally messy, no perfect piping or smooth frosting to be found here).

Trends come and go, the key is to sift through the noise, find those things that work for you and stick with them.

Bowen Therapy was developed by Thomas Bowen in Australia in the 1950s, arriving in the UK in the early 90s, and gaining popularity quickly helped by a Daily Mail article in 1994. And here we are 30 years later, still growing with over 8,000 practitioners in the UK alone.

Will cloud cakes still be with in 35 years time? Let’s hope not…!

One of 2025’s biggest travel trends is running holidays, according to a recent article in National Geographic. Travellers are combining all the physical, emotional and mental health benefits of running with exploring a new place, from a night run past Buda Castle in Budapest, to trail routes in the Dolomites.

Training for any dedicated run or running holiday can lead to muscular tightness and ni**les, especially in the calves, IT band, hamstrings, or lower back.

Bowen offers a gentle, movement based bodywork method that supports runners by:
• Relieving tension and promoting muscular release
• Enhancing joint mobility and alignment
• Reducing recovery time and helping prevent overuse injuries
• Supporting better posture and running mechanics

So if you’re considering a running holiday, or you’re just happy running closer to home, a session in one of my clinics in Crieff or Oban can complement your training, and keep you running pain-free for longer.

Ladies, if you’re in your 40s, 50s or 60s and think strength training isn’t for you, think again. It’s one of the most powerful tools you have to support your body, hormones, energy levels, and long-term health.

At Repair & Restore I work with lots of women navigating the hormonal changes of midlife - aches, stiffness, fatigue. I’ve seen how introducing simple strength training can be a game-changer, and it’s something I have incorporated into my own week.

Here’s why strength training is essential:
- Builds and protects bone density
- Preserves muscle mass (which naturally declines with age)
- Improves posture and joint stability
- Boosts metabolism and supports healthy weight
- Enhances balance and reduces fall risk
- Supports mood, sleep, and cognitive function

And no, you don’t need to join a gym or lift heavy weights. Bodyweight movements, resistance bands, or even lifting things you have around the house all count, and I will often recommend my clients pair Bowen therapy with strength training.

Start where you are and progress gradually.

Most issues aren’t caused by a single structure.
They’re the result of layered compensations across the whole system.

Assessment Led Bowen helps you connect the dots — so you can treat globally, even when symptoms seem local.

Have you ever said ‘I need a PA to deal with all this school admin!’ then drowned in the emails anyway?

Have you ever missed an concert, match, or class assembly because the volume of information for each class and child is overwhelming?

Enter The Parent PA – I am launching a new package on 18 August for all parents relating to the above. For 1-2 hours a month (£30-60) you can outsource the school admin you don’t have time for.

I have a limited number of places available to start with, so drop me a message with the words 'PARENT PA' to be added to the waiting list and be in the first group to receive all the pre-launch information, the option of a free discovery call to answer any further questions, and a reserved place when the package launches next month.

Something is always better than nothing – especially when it comes to walking.

Have you ever felt frustrated at not being able to reach 10,000 steps a day? It takes time, and not all of us have that. A major new study published in The Lancet Public Health has found that walking 7,000 steps a day can lower the risk of serious health issues by up to 47% (including cardiovascular disease, cancer, dementia and depression) compared to just 2,000 steps.

And the even better news is that walking 4,000 steps a day offers real benefits over very low activity levels.

So if 10,000 steps feels too much, don’t let that stop you walking smaller distances.

As a Bowen therapist I am so aware of how gentle movement can support recovery and well being, especially when you’re managing lower mobility, or starting from a low baseline. My clients find that adding short walks, gentle movement breaks, or light stretching between sessions makes a big difference over time.

Tips to keep moving:
- Add short, manageable walks whenever you can
- Walk while talking on the phone if possible
- Pause to stretch or shift posture while working at a desk

Have you considered a digital detox?

If you are feeling frazzled or overstimulated it might be time to consider one.

Our phones, emails, and constant notifications keep our nervous systems in a low-grade state of stress.
Over time, that can show up as:

- Tension in the neck and shoulders
- Brain fog or poor sleep
- Anxiety or emotional burnout
- A body that just won’t switch off

Pairing a short digital detox with a Bowen session will have a powerful effect on your nervous system. It gently eases your body into deep rest, helping to calm the nervous system, release built-up tension, and restore a sense of balance.

Less scrolling and stimulation, leads to more stillness. Your body doesn’t need more input, it needs more space to reset.

Recovery is the new workout

We seem to be moving into a new era of wellness where rest, repair, and resetting the nervous system are just as important as movement itself.

This is exciting for a Bowen practitioner like myself, as Bowen is a gentle, fascia-focused treatment that helps your body release deep tension, improves mobility, and activates healing from within.

Tools like foam rollers, red light therapy, and cold plunges are making headlines, but fascia work is quietly leading the way, and Bowen is one of the most powerful (yet underrated) ways to do it.

- Think of it as fascia work without the force.
- It’s subtle, calming, and deeply restorative.
- Ideal for anyone feeling stiff, wired, or worn out.

Your body doesn’t always need to push harder. Sometimes, it just needs permission to let go.
