Did you set some long forgotten New Year’s Resolutions back at the beginning of the year?

Today we enter the final quarter of 2025, and now might be the time to think back to what you pledged to do more of, less of, give up or start.

And it’s not too late to end the year the same way you started it, even if you tailed off in the middle. In 90 days you could be ending the year fitter, stronger, calmer, more rested or just putting yourself higher up the priority list for once.

I would welcome the opportunity to help you get your self-care promises back on track – I’m available in Crieff and Oban for appointments.

Get in touch today and finish the year the same way you started it.

Did you know that tension in your neck doesn’t just stay in your neck?

The neck is home to major nerves, blood vessels, and muscles, and so constrictions and issues here can ripple out and show up as:

• Headaches or migraines
• Shoulder and arm pain
• Dizziness or balance problems
• Jaw tension
• Back discomfort

Bowen Therapy works by gently resetting the body’s nervous system, helping tight muscles relax and encouraging better alignment. When the neck softens and releases, the rest of the body often follows.
If you have been suffering from any of the above, then a Bowen session might provide the answer.

You might have heard of ‘75 Hard’, the demanding fitness challenge which requires two 45-minute workouts every day, whilst also drinking 4 litres of water, abstaining from alcohol and zero flexibility within those and other rules.

However you might not have heard of ‘75 Hotter’, which encourages a more holistic approach to becoming the best version of yourself.

• Daily movement (10,000 steps a day, alongside a sustainable workout schedule)
• Prioritising protein and greens at every meal
• Hydrating properly (but not excessively) and being mindful of alcohol consumption
• Keeping our spaces clean and tidy
• Connecting with friends
• Progress tracking with journalling and photos
• One self-care treatment per week that makes YOU feel hotter.
• Make positive self talk a daily habit

It’s definitely a better, and more positive way to improve your health if that is your aim – and Bowen is a perfect option for one of your weekly self-care treatments during the 75 days!

Arthritis is a debilitating and frighteningly common condition that many of us will experience in our lives.

Whilst there is no cure, many of my clients come to me looking for a way to ease their symptoms, finding it brings gentle relief and support alongside their existing care plan.

- Improved mobility: Bowen’s light, rolling moves help ease tension in surrounding muscles and joints, making movement feel easier.
- Pain management: By calming the nervous system, Bowen can reduce pain signals and encourage the body’s natural healing responses.
- Better circulation & lymph flow: Supporting the body’s systems can help ease inflammation and swelling.
- Deep relaxation: Reducing stress can have a positive ripple effect on pain and overall wellbeing.

If you’re living with arthritis and looking for a gentle, non-invasive therapy to complement your routine, Bowen may be worth exploring.

Bowen Therapy vs. Physiotherapy – what’s the difference?

At first glance, Bowen therapy and physiotherapy can seem similar since both are used to help with pain and movement. However, the way they work is quite different:

Physiotherapy:
• Often focuses on specific injuries
• Uses targeted exercises, stretches, and manual techniques
• Aims to restore strength, mobility, and function through structured rehabilitation

Bowen Therapy:
• A gentle, holistic technique that works with the body’s fascia and nervous system
• Involves precise rolling moves with short pauses to allow the body to respond
• Encourages the body to reset, rebalance, and activate its own healing processes

Many of my clients describe Bowen treatments as deeply relaxing yet surprisingly powerful. Improvements are often noticed not just in muscle tension or pain, but in overall wellbeing.
If you’ve tried physiotherapy before but are curious about a gentler, whole-body approach, Bowen therapy might be worth exploring.

Somatic healing, and how Bowen supports this

‘Somatic’ means relating to the body, and Somatic healing is about noticing and releasing stress, tension, or trauma that the body has been holding onto. There is currently huge interest in practices that help regulate our nervous system and move us out of a state of ‘fight or flight’.

Bowen fits beautifully with this healing – it is gentle, which means the body feels safe, a key principle of somatic work. And Bowen invites the nervous system to ‘reset’ rather than forcing change.

The benefits of this type of work include reducing the physical symptoms of stress (tight shoulders or jaw, headaches, shallow breathing), as well as the emotional liberation that comes about from releasing stored trauma.

If you are experiencing any physical or emotional symptoms caused by previous trauma or stress then do book an appointment.

I saw a mum-to-be who had been suffering with pain and discomfort in clinic last month, and I share her message afterwards with her permission:

“I am genuinely walking about like a new woman – I have a big cheeser on my face with how good it feels now and so quick. You are Wonder Woman – can’t thank you enough!!”

So here are 5 ways Bowen therapy supports pregnancy:

1. Relieving common pregnancy discomforts, including lower back pain, pelvic pain and instability, sciatica, swollen legs and feet, and digestive discomforts (reflux, constipation etc)
2. Supporting sleep & stress relief. Many pregnant mums struggle with insomnia and anxiety, and Bowen supports the parasympathetic nervous system, encouraging deeper relaxation and better rest.
3. Preparing for birth. Bowen can help the body find “space” for baby, in many cases making for an easier birth.
4. Postnatal recovery. Bowen is safe after birth and can support recovery by easing tension in the back, pelvis, and shoulders (areas that can suffer due to feeding and carrying a newborn). It can also be part of emotional recovery, helping the nervous system rebalance after the intensity of birth and new motherhood.
5. Whole-family care. Bowen isn’t just for mums, it can also support babies (with colic or unsettled sleep) and partners (often carrying their own tension during pregnancy and after birth).

Have you ever experienced Restless Legs?

Many people have, especially women, and it can be very disruptive to sleep and relaxation.

But you might not have considered that Bowen Therapy offers a gentle, non-invasive way way to help with these symptoms. It can:

- Reduce tension in the legs
- Improve circulation
- Calm the nervous system
- Promote deep relaxation

Many clients notice improved sleep and relief from restless legs after Bowen sessions, including this client who left me a lovely review after her treatment.

If you are curious whether Bowen could help your restless legs then do book a session, or get in touch.

Last week I took some time out to spend time with Alessia, our daughter, before the start of a new term in a new school. We swam, walked and breathed - looking after me in the busyness of life.

I urge you to do the same thing as we enter a new season and a new chapter for many. Take a pause, re-connect with those around you and, arguably, more importantly with yourself.

I am so grateful to be able to offer Bowen therapy over my two clinics in both Crieff and Oban.
Over the next few weeks my focus needs to shift to Crieff while our daughter settles into a new school, and so I will be offering a more limited selection of appointments in Oban.
Please continue to book your Crieff appointments online, but please message me to book an appointment in Oban for now.
Many thanks for your support across both clinics!

Both branches of our nervous system are essential for our survival.

The sympathetic system wakes us up in the morning and gives us energy to go about our day.

The parasympathetic system helps us rest, digest, and sleep.

True wellbeing isn’t about being stuck in one state — it’s about flexibility, the ability to move smoothly between these branches as life requires.

If you feel like you’re spending too much time in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn, consider trying Bowen Therapy.
