A client came to see me recently with aching knees that had been troubling her for months, and which she had originally written off as age-related wear and tear. She was active still, with daily dog walks and regular gardening, but had started to find herself avoiding hillier routes, as her knees would start to complain halfway round.

After just a few Bowen sessions, she noticed she could get up from the sofa without that familiar stiffness, the stairs didn’t feel like such an effort anymore, and her dog walks were much easier and more enjoyable.

With knee pain it’s rarely just about the knee. Sometimes it’s the pelvis sitting slightly out of balance, tight muscles around the hips or thighs, or even tension in the lower back.

Bowen works gently with the body to help it rebalance, easing tension, improving circulation, and supporting natural alignment.

So don’t feel you have to ‘just live with it’, Bowen really can make a big difference.

Getting better quality sleep is not just about how long you sleep, but how deeply your systems can unwind. A recent survey of UK wellness trends found that improving sleep is fast becoming a top-priority for many people when it comes to overall health.

In my Bowen practice I’ve noticed that many clients report that they sleep OK, but wake up not feeling rested, or stiff and aching. Here’s how Bowen can help you truly reset:

• Bowen moves help calm down the nervous system (the “fight/flight” side) so your body can switch into “repair/rest” mode.
• By releasing muscular/structural tensions (for example in your rib-cage, diaphragm, thoracic spine) the breath can deepen, which improves rest

If you’ve been struggling with uneven sleep, waking feeling stiff or just not fully refreshed, then let’s talk about how Bowen might help.

Could you be holding tension in your neck?

You’re not alone. So many of us hold tension here, often without realising how much it affects our posture, breathing, and energy levels. The neck muscles can also be the primary cause of issues in the pelvis, knees and even the ankles when alignment is out.

But the good news is that Bowen Therapy can help release this. Using gentle, precise movements over muscles and fascia, Bowen encourages the body to relax and release built-up tension. Many clients are surprised by how such light touch can create a deep sense of ease, not just in the neck muscles, but throughout the whole body. They often remark how they feel taller, lighter, and calmer afterwards.

So if you’ve been putting up with neck tension, and it’s negative side effects, then Bowen might be the answer.

If you’ve been scrolling through health and wellness content lately, you’ve probably seen a lot of talk about nervous system regulation, and for good reason.

Our nervous system plays a key role in how we feel day-to-day: our sleep, digestion, mood, energy levels, even our ability to heal and handle stress. When it’s out of balance, everything else can start to feel “off.”
Which is where Bowen Therapy can make a big difference. Bowen works gently on the fascia and soft tissues of the body, helping calm the nervous system and bring it back into balance. Many of my clients describe a deep sense of relaxation and a noticeable shift after a session, as if their body finally gets a chance to “reset.”

If you’ve been feeling stuck in stress mode or struggling to switch off, Bowen may be exactly what your nervous system is asking for.

If you would like to learn more then do send me a message, or you can book a session in my Crieff or Oban clinics.

My last client last week was a 12 year old girl who is doing around 16 hours of sport each week. Whilst she didn’t currently have any niggles or issues, the point of the appointment was to keep her injury-free and able to compete.

The truth is, most sports injuries don’t happen out of nowhere. They build up over time, from tight muscles, and small imbalances.

That’s why prevention is always better than cure.

Regular body maintenance, like stretching, rest days, and gentle therapies such as Bowen, can help keep your muscles, joints, and nervous system in balance, so your body can move freely and recover faster.

A few tips to stay injury-free:
- Warm up and cool down properly
- Listen to niggles before they turn into pain
- Keep hydrated and rest when your body asks for it
- Schedule regular Bowen sessions to release tension and support recovery

I offer a 45 minute appointment for children up to 12 years old for £25.

Have you been feeling a little “off” since the clocks changed? If so you’re not imagining it, a single hour’s shift can affect your sleep, mood, and energy levels.

When our internal body clock (circadian rhythm) falls out of sync with daylight, it can lead to:
- Tiredness and poor sleep
- Increased stress on the heart
- Mood dips or irritability
- More daytime fatigue and reduced focus

Experts are finding that our bodies actually do best on natural time, more light in the morning and darkness in the evening. Until we stop changing the clocks, there are a few things you can do to help your system rebalance:
- Get outside into the morning light
- Wind down earlier for a few nights
- Keep moving gently - even a short walk helps reset your rhythm

And if your body feels tense or sluggish, a Bowen session can help it re-balance naturally

If you’ve ever suffered from migraines, you’ll know how debilitating they can be. The light sensitivity, nausea, visual disturbances and throbbing pain all make it hard to think, move or function. Many people spend years searching for relief, often trying various medications with mixed results.

That’s where Bowen Therapy can offer a different kind of support.

Bowen is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that helps the body reset and find balance. By working with the body’s fascia (the connective tissue around muscles and organs) and calming the nervous system, Bowen can help ease the tension patterns and stress responses that often contribute to migraines. Clients often report fewer migraine episodes over time, and a reduced intensity when they do occur.

Migraines are complex, they can stem from stress, hormonal shifts, posture, dehydration, or even emotional overload.

Bowen doesn’t fight your body; it helps your body do what it’s designed to do: rebalance, recover and restore – which is why it can be so effective in this area.

If you are interested in exploring a more natural way to reduce migraine frequency then I would love to help.

An article in the Guardian this week warned of a growing “menopause gold rush”, where companies and influencers profit from women’s confusion and lack of reliable information. With so many products and programmes promising instant relief, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure what really helps.

As a Bowen therapist, I see firsthand how powerful simple, holistic support can be during menopause and perimenopause. Bowen Therapy works with the body’s own healing mechanisms, using gentle, rolling moves over muscles and fascia to calm the nervous system, improve circulation, and encourage hormonal balance.

Many of my clients have found that Bowen helps them with:
- Reducing stress and anxiety
- Improving sleep and easing night sweats
- Relieving joint or muscle pain
- Supporting emotional wellbeing and a sense of balance

Menopause is a natural transition, and you deserve reliable, evidence-based support, rather than social media influencers exploiting your uncertainty.

If you are experiencing perimenopause symptoms then do get in touch.

While the number of men I see in my clinics each week has grown over time, the majority of my clients are still women. Men are often reluctant to seek help, despite the fact that many hold stressful jobs, both mentally and physically.

So if you have a niggling issue that you haven’t made time for, or you know a man who does – this is their reminder that you can’t pour from an empty cup, and investing in your future self will reap huge benefits for you and everyone depending on you.

If you want to feel calmer, 20 minutes outside is a great place to start. This can be as simple as walking to a local park and eating your lunch on a bench. A recent article on the BBC web-site highlighted 4 ways in which this can help calmness:

1. Unconsciously relaxing – seeing trees and plants, hearing leaves rustling or birds singing, causes your autonomic nervous system to respond instantly, and physiological calming occurs
2. Hormonal balancing – spending time outdoors lowers our levels of cortisol and adrenaline.
3. Smelling nature – tree and soil aromas are full of organic compounds, and some molecules pass into the bloodstream and you breathe them in. Within just 90 seconds of smelling a pine forest you are physiologically calmer and the effects remain for up to 10 minutes.
4. Gut health boosting – the microbes found in soil have a positive effect on our own gut microbiome, even by breathing them in. And good gut health has a positive effect on our mental health.

If you are looking for ways to keep relaxed between Bowen sessions then spending 20 minutes outside in nature is the perfect way to do that.

Are you feeling the autumn slowdown yet?

As the days shorten and the air cools, many of us notice more stiffness, tension, or fatigue in our bodies. Bowen Therapy helps your body rebalance during this seasonal shift, easing tight muscles, improving circulation, and supporting calm and restful sleep.

Think of it as a gentle reset button for your nervous system. Try pairing your session with these health tips as well:

1. Breathe deeper: a few minutes of slow breathing helps settle the nervous system and pairs beautifully with Bowen’s calming effect.
2. Stretch gently: your muscles love movement after a session. Try light stretching or a mindful walk among the leaves.
3. Stay hydrated & warm: herbal teas with ginger or cinnamon help boost circulation and immunity
4. Seasonal food: dedicate some time to making warm nourishing meals from your local and seasonal produce
5. Focus on sleep: early nights and mindful rest will bring huge benefits for your health
