It's half term, that means kids go free! We started it here to help out North East families and now it's going nationwide.

So, lost for what to do in the holidays? Well the bus, Metro, and the Shields Ferry will allow free travel for up to three children aged 11 and under, when travelling with an adult with a valid ticket or concessionary pass holder. So, why not make the most of the sunny (hopefully!) weather and explore our beautiful region. 🏙️ 🏕️ ⛱️ ☀️ 🚌

Tips for coping in hot weather

* look out for those who may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated – older people, those with underlying health conditions and those who live alone are particularly at risk

* stay cool indoors – many of us will need to stay safe at home this summer so know how to keep your home cool

* close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler and remember it may be cooler outdoors than indoors

* drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol

* never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals

* try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm

* walk in the shade, apply sunscreen regularly and wear a wide brimmed hat, if you have to go out in the heat

* avoid exercising in the hottest parts of the day

* make sure you take water with you, if you are travelling

* if you are going into open water to cool down, take care and follow local safety advice

📢 Did you know?

Around 7 in 10 people living with dementia may go missing at least once.

Last year Durham Constabulary launched a new initiative; the “Dementia Wristband’.

When an individual is signed up to our Herbert Protocol, they will be offered a wristband or hangtag. These are programmed to hold the individuals next of kin name and contact number, so in the event that they go missing and are located, we are able to return them home as soon as possible.

Officers are asking anyone who notices someone on their own, looking lost and confused, and wearing one of these bright yellow bands or tags to stop and help.

🗣️ PCSO Nicholas Laverick who is assisting in rolling out and managing the scheme, said: “We know how challenging dementia can be for families. This scheme offers reassurance and helps bring loved one’s home safely as quickly as possible.

“We are encouraging anyone who is hearing about this initiative and has a loved one who could be supported by both the Herbert Protocol and the Dementia Wristband Scheme to contact us, If you have a loved one already on the scheme and feel the additional support of a band or tag would be beneficial, please contact us on the below email.”

Why E Consult Is Making Healthcare Easier for You?🖥️
Accessing healthcare has traditionally meant scheduling appointments, waiting on hold, and sitting in busy waiting rooms. But with the rise of digital services, getting medical advice is becoming quicker and more convenient than ever. One of the most effective tools leading this change is eConsult.📲

What is eConsult?🖥️

eConsult is an online service that allows you to contact your GP practice without needing to visit in person. By completing a simple online form, you can describe your symptoms, request advice, or ask for administrative help—anytime, from anywhere.📝
Convenience at Your Fingertips - One of the biggest advantages of eConsult is flexibility. You can submit your request, whether you're at home, at work, or on the go. 🫰

No more waiting on the phone at 8am or rearranging your day for an appointment.📞

Faster Responses - Instead of waiting days or even weeks for a routine appointment, eConsult helps your GP practice review your request quickly.

Many patients receive a response within one working day, guiding you on the next steps—whether that’s self-care advice, a prescription, or an appointment if needed.📝

Better Use of Your Time and Your GP’s- Not every health concern requires an in-person visit. eConsult helps ensure that GP appointments are reserved for patients who truly need them, while others can be managed remotely. This improves efficiency and reduces waiting times for everyone.🚫

For urgent or emergency issues, it’s still important to contact emergency services or call NHS 111.🚑

Appointment System📕

We offer same day appointments, pre-bookable appointments and triage appointments with a variety of clinicians.👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

When contacting the surgery either by telephone, in person, or by eConsultation, please provide as much detail as possible so that you can be directed to the most appropriate service/health professional. 📞👩👨
