Windlesham Manor

Windlesham Manor Welcome to Windlesham Manor. We have been a family run care home for 50 years and one of the oldest in Crowborough.

Well, Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle found inspiration here and we hope you will too. Windlesham Manor is a family-owned and run care home for the elderly in the heart of beautiful Sussex countryside where Sir Arthur lived for many years and wrote many of his works. Here at Windlesham our philosophy is that you go on flourishing throughout life and we find our residents do just that. It may be the interesting activities that are arranged and participated in, our chef’s delicious meals or just simply that the house and it’s lovely grounds are the perfect recipe. You don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to see it happening! A country house setting on the outskirts of Crowborough, East Sussex, close to Crowborough Beacon Golf Club and the Ashdown Forest. The former and much-loved home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, now sympathetically extended, retains much of its original character and provides excellent accomodation for up to 40 residents. Windlesham Manor has gained a reputation over a forty year period for the highest standards of residential care. Its full-trained staff emphasise that this is a home and not an institution where caring for loved ones is undertaken in partnership with families. Paying close attention to each individual’s unique and personal needs and enabling them to live as independently as possible is a core principle.

🍀 St Patrick’s Day Celebrations at Windlesham Manor 🍀

St Patrick’s Day celebrations were in full swing at Windlesham Manor today! 💚

Our wonderful kitchen team pulled out all the stops, treating everyone to delicious homemade Irish soda bread served alongside a selection of Irish cheeses…and of course, a well deserved tipple of Guinness! 🍞🧀🍺

We also enjoyed some fun, Irish themed green “lucky” cupcakes, adding a sweet touch to the day’s festivities. 🧁✨

The highlight of the celebration was a spectacular musical performance from Jon and his guitar, bringing smiles, laughter, and plenty of sing-alongs! 🎶🎸

A fantastic day filled with great food, music, and even better company. Happy St Patrick’s Day to all! 🍀💚

Our talented chef prepared an amazing selection of homemade treats including chocolate chip brownies, lemon drizzle cake, scones, croissants with egg & cress and cheese & pickle, palmiers, sausage rolls, Madeira cake and cherry cake. Everything looked and tasted absolutely delicious! 🍰🥐
To make the afternoon even more special, we were entertained by the fantastic singer Roger, who had everyone smiling, singing along and enjoying the wonderful atmosphere. 🎶
It was a lovely afternoon full of music, laughter and sweet treats, celebrating the amazing mothers and women who are such a special part of our home. 💖

Springtime smiles all around 🌸🐣
We were delighted to welcome back Pet Pals for a very special visit! Our residents had the wonderful opportunity to meet and cuddle some incredibly sweet one week old baby chicks and baby quails. Their tiny cheeps and fluffy feathers brought so much joy and laughter to the room.
We were also visited by a delightful pair of gentle, curious lambs who were more than happy to say hello and receive plenty of attention. 🐑💛
Adding to the excitement was a friendly sheepdog puppy, who kept a watchful eye on the whole event and quickly stole everyone’s hearts! 🐶
Moments like these bring so much happiness, comfort, and connection for our residents. Thank you to Pet Pals for another unforgettable visit!

Thank you to our amazing kitchen assistant Debbie, who made some delicious cupcakes to celebrate all the women at Windlesham, both staff and Residents. We really enjoyed these light, scrumptious cakes with a cuppa, whilst watching another fantastic woman, Olivia perform for us all!

Nourishment for the body, comfort for the soul.
Our kitchen focuses on the “Weight of Wellness.” Home-cooked, nutrient-dense meals are about more than just health, they provide comfort and regulation.
From a clinical perspective, a warm, familiar meal can significantly reduce late-afternoon agitation (or “sundowning”), providing a sense of calm and safety as the day draws to a close. Real food, made with love, for a life well-lived.

To celebrate St David’s Day at Windlesham Manor, we had lots of fun learning about the life of St David, with a themed fact morning, followed by a quiz to test our Residents new knowledge! It of course wouldn’t be St David’s Day without some delicious Welsh cakes!

There is a quiet magic that happens around a shared table.
At Windlesham Manor, communal dining isn’t just an amenity; it’s a cornerstone of our care. Sitting together, sharing stories and serving from the same dishes restores a rhythm of life that many fear losing.
We call it the “Kitchen Table Effect.” It’s where isolation ends and belonging begins. Because no matter your age, the best part of the day is always spent together.

Heritage. Stillness. Sanctuary.
At Windlesham Manor, romance is woven into the very fabric of our history. This Valentine’s week, we pause to celebrate the enduring power of love and the beauty of moments shared within these walls.
Beyond the grandeur, it is the quiet connection between people that makes this Manor a home. A celebration of the heart, today and every day.

The most powerful memories aren’t always found in stories—sometimes, they’re found floating in the air.
At Windlesham Manor, we believe the kitchen is the heart of the home. The scent of a heart-warming roast dinner or bread wafting from the kitchen does more than just “wake up” the appetite; it cuts through the fog of cognitive decline and speaks directly to emotional memory.
These sensory sparks ground our residents in the present, offering a sense of reassurance and familiarity that words often can’t. It’s not just a meal; it’s a connection to home.
