✨Hypnobirthing is an antenatal training programme for pregnant women using relaxation, breathing and mindfulness. It enables women and their partners to be calm, confident and feel in control during childbirth.

✨Learning how to be free of fear and tension means that women can embrace the birthing process and place trust in their bodies to birth easily and effectively.

✨Hypnobirthing is suitable for all women, not just for those with a straightforward pregnancy. For those who may require medical help such as a caesarean, or instrumental birth, or an induction of labour, it can help the couple remain in control at a time when they can be at their most anxious and tense. This is taught alongside antenatal education and is delivered by midwives.

✨The ideal time to attend a hypnobirthing course is between 24 – 36 weeks of pregnancy.

✨Each course comprises four classes of two hours:
7pm - 9pm Wednesdays at Crowborough birth Centre (CBC)

✨The cost is £140 per four-week course. This is for birthing person and a birth partner and includes a handbook for you to keep.

➡️Please email mtw-tr.hypnobirthing@nhs.net for more info and to book!

“After a difficult first birth which ended in an emergency c section I was determined to make this a more positive experience and planned to have a vaginal birth after c section at Crowborough birth centre. I am so grateful as I had the most incredible time labouring at CBC with Julie and Michelle. They were wonderful and followed my birth plan to the letter, they made me feel so safe and strong. I am still in awe with how well I coped compared with my previous birth and a huge part of that is how safe I felt there with them.

Frustratingly when I was pushing I experienced pain in my c section scar. We hoped baby would come before the ambulance got there but he didn’t so we transferred. I did not feel scared at any point during transfer, I was so well supported and felt safe the whole time.

I was nervous about going to Pembury as I thought I would definitely end up having another c section but I was pleasantly surprised by how seamless the transfer of care was and how closely they still followed my birth plan. I didn’t have to ask for anything, they had read my birth plan and stuck to it for me. I had some additional monitoring and once we established that all was ok and I had a bit of pain relief it was perfect. Huge thank you to my midwife Drew and student midwife Ella at Pembury for helping me deliver my baby, it was the most incredible and empowering experience of my life. Special thanks also to my community midwife, Lauren. She has been my midwife for with both my pregnancies now and was so supportive throughout everything. Baby Freddie born 6 November 🩵”

👋Meet the Team!👋
Say hello to CBC and Community Matron Sally…!

“I first trained as a Nurse in London in the late 1980’s and came into Midwifery as I was not happy in the Nursing job I had so took the first course I could find - Midwifery - and loved it. After I qualified in 1993, my Mum told me I had said aged 4 that I was going to deliver babies for a job, it appears I knew at an early age what I should be doing.

I worked in the old Pembury till we moved across into the new hospital but have mainly been based in the community. First in the Paddock Wood area; then Tonbridge prior to my daughter being born; and then the Tunbridge Wells patch for many years. I am very passionate about out of hospital birth provision and have done many homebirths over the years which was always such a privilege.

I became a Team lead for Community Midwifery teams in the 1990’s and then decided to try and become Community and Crowborough Birth Centre Matron this year. Luckily I was successful and am now working still with my lovely community colleagues, but now also with the incredible CBC team. I enjoy the challenge of this job still - no day is ever the same!

Out side of work, I have 2 adult children, no grandchildren yet and a very supportive husband who looked after them when they were small with all my nighttime callouts-sometimes he did not even realise I had gone out! Outside of work I love travelling, reading, pottering around my garden and house and having a general catch up with friends.

“On the 24th of November, 6 minutes after arriving at Crowborough Birth Centre and literally throwing myself into the waiting, capable hands of Flic and Amy, our little boy Marcus was born.

To be honest, Marcus was almost born in the car park rather than the birth centre! No drama though as Flic and Amy heard me coming and were out quick as a flash to meet me and whisk me down to one of the birthing rooms.

Although my labour was far faster than anyone expected, there was never panic just the calm, skillful prescence of the team. My husband is telling everyone how amazingly impressed he was watching them work together in the midst of Marcus’ rapid arrival.

I was given a truely golden hour afterwards with no pressure to move from where I was comfortable and I was able to enjoy skin to skin with Marcus before he was weighed, dressed and sorted out. Flic and Amy were always around and I found their reassuring presence really helped me to calm the adrenaline, relax and enjoy that precious first few hours.

We stayed over-night in a lovely, cosy room meeting the night shift and the following day shift staff. Consistent throughout was the attentive care and support from absolutely everyone. Nothing was too much trouble.

Crowborough Birth Centre for us was a peaceful cocoon while Storm Bert raged outside and we feel immensely blessed to have had the 5* experience that we did.

Thank you Crowborough Birth Centre, our experience was everything and more than we had hoped for. ###”

“I’ve never birthed at Crowborough, due to various complications and needs. But I wanted to say Thank You to you all; for over seeing the care of myself and my 4 Children. A special mention to Jo Humphries, who was my Midwife during every pregnancy. I shall always remember her and everyone I saw along the years. You all do the most powerful, sacred and life changing jobs. I have birthed every way possible, natural assisted ventouse, natural, emergency c section and my last- a planned section with sterilization. Here’s to an end of a Chapter. ❤️

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for looking after my partner, Cameron, and I. We came in two weeks ago on the 11th of October where we were lucky enough to experience being in one of your beautiful birthing suites.

Unfortunately we were transferred to pembury as baby decided to poo during labour(!) and he was taking a little while to come out, so we didn’t quite have the ending that we had hoped for, but we have no regrets about our choice or experience with you. Perhaps if there is a baby number two we might have better luck..!

We wanted to say a huge thank you in particular to Emma and Amy. During what started to become a more daunting experience than we had hoped for, your kindness and calmness really is what shines through when I look back on my experience. Emma, thank you so much for coming with me and staying with me during the transfer to pembury. I can only apologise for how hard I was squeezing your hands and for the noise that I was making! It’s funny how quickly a new face can become so familiar and be of so much comfort. Thank you for all of your support and encouragement, I couldn’t have felt as though I were in safer hands.

We have named our baby boy Raphy. He is doing really well and we are soaking up every moment of our newborn bubble.

Thank you again for everything you do. I couldn’t recommend your birthing centre enough and we feel so lucky that we were able to spend some of our birth experience with you.”
