✨ Skincare Facts: PIH vs. PIE ✨

Struggling with dark spots or redness after a breakout? Let’s clear up the difference between Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) and Post-Inflammatory Erythema (PIE)! 👇

💡 PIH is the dark or brown spots left behind after inflammation. It’s caused by an increase in melanin production in the skin. This happens more often in darker skin tones and fades over time but can take a while.

💡 PIE appears as red or pink spots and is caused by dilated blood vessels under the skin. It’s more common in lighter skin tones and might need targeted treatments (think laser or anti-inflammatory products) to fully fade.

🎯 Tip: Vitamin C helps with PIH while soothing ingredients like niacinamide or azelaic acid can help with PIE.

3 reasons why NOW is the perfect time to peel! 🍂

1. Newly peeled skin is much more sensitive, and sun exposure during healing may result in complications to the patient’s skin, such as colour changes and hyperpigmentation. darker, shorter days may not sound like much fun, but it’s great for protecting the skin! There’s also enough time to administer a course of peels to treat specific skin conditions, such as acne and hyperpigmentation.

2. Lifestyle changes over the past 18 months are also conducive to post-peel downtime. Patients may have more flexibility in working from home, so for anyone feeling self-conscious about their appearance in the first week or so after treatment, they have the ability to stay home. Less sun or skiing holidays booked in also mean less restrictions on when a patient can receive the treatment.

3. December is of course party season 🎉,with everyone wanting to look their best for various social gatherings.
We recommend allowing at least 2 weeks healing time before an event (ideally 28 days), so it’s worth making patients aware to get booked in for October and November appointments.
