According to the Financial Times, “Britons now have the worst access to healthcare in Europe.” due to long waiting lists. (https://www.ft.com/content/de8fc348-0025-4821-9ec5-d50b4bbacc8d)

Beginning just before the start of the pandemic but gaining momentum quickly, there has been a huge increase in the rates of chronic illnesses amongst people that have long-term inabilities to work. According to the article, there are half a million MORE working-age people with health conditions that impair them from working.

The article goes on to say, “economic activity rates are lower for Britons with mental health problems, than for any other condition.” And over the past year, 1/6 UK adults that have needed either medical examinations or treatment, have been unable to get access, mostly due to waiting lengths and with potential spending cuts on the government agenda, the government needs to do something about this issue ASAP.

What do you think can be done about this issue? Like, comment and share!

The first 100 days of a new high level appointment is important for progress.

When the New Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley attends a community meeting hosted by Met Police to listen and learn from Community Leader as well share his thoughts about tackling violence we agree - It is about working “together” with the community.

Thanks for hosting such an important meeting!

MPs in the House of Commons have been told they need to “ditch the perception that care work is unskilled” as it is “simply not true” – Chevonne Baker (Home Care worker for Right at Home)

Baker spoke to the Health and Social Care Committee and gave recommendations on how to improve retention in the social care sector, suggesting that the label regularly given to care workers as “low-skilled/unskilled” is bad for the profession and can make people feel as though they’re not being valued properly.

What are some of your thoughts towards this. Let us know in the comments below.

Policy Exchange have released a new report which urges the new Prime Minister to act in two major areas within the health and social care sectors, as there has been a speedy decline in public satisfaction with general practice. (https://lnkd.in/e8--4zHv)

The report states “Performance across all major NHS metrics is in decline and the record waits across general practice, emergency and planned care have led to the biggest single fall in public satisfaction with the NHS.”

The report goes on to say “Quality is a major issue within social care. Two thirds of people who use the services are dissatisfied and the workforce of provider market are fragile.”

What do you think the Prime Minister needs to address first? Let us know in the comments.

Care England are calling for independent adult social care staff to be placed on equal footing with NHS staff, as the lack of government action is having lasting consequences on employment opportunities within the care sector. (https://lnkd.in/ea_Wk6di)

Recruitment and retention of staff has been negatively affected and this has been proven by a “52% increase in vacant posts in the sector over the past year.” – Professor Martin Green OBE (Chief Executive of Care England)

“Both the Scottish and Welsh governments have provided bonuses for social care staff in recognition of their heroic efforts throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Care England would implore the English Government to follow suit; the Adult Social Care workforce needs to be seen for what it is and ensure that staff are remunerated accordingly.”

What are some of your thoughts towards this. Let us know in the comments below.

A survey on 1,000 working Americans highlighted the retirement crisis that Americans are facing now.

Less than half of those who took the survey have saved less than $100,000 which is barely enough to cover a salary of $40,000 in retirement. 1/6 haven’t saved anything and 1/3 aren’t making any contributions to their retirement fund. (https://www.marketwatch.com/story/heres-how-much-the-average-working-boomer-has-saved-for-retirement-11655923201)

Whilst those in their older ages don’t have the luxury of saving up “enough” for their retirement, young adults have much more time to start saving as soon as possible and saving as much as possible, so they don’t run into any issues, when that time for retirement finally comes.

Not having a will is only part of the story and should not be neglected especially for those that speak about generational wealth and legacy.

That is one of the reasons why we at PJs Community Services are working with David Frederick from Marcus Bishop Associates to support underserved communities to better understand legacy & estate planning as well as long term care planning.

Wrapped up in 30+ years of working in the care space, seeing people not adequately preparing for an inevitable part of life:

How does your organisation support you and your wellbeing? Do you feel like your needs are being met and supported?

“Unique IQ” (Home Care technology firm) conducted a survey about the importance of workplace wellbeing in the care sector and found that 99% of participants said it was “important to them that their organisation supports their wellbeing.”

Stress, pressure, and burnout are common feelings that workers in the care sector experience, especially with the pandemic and now more than ever, organisations need to do implement more initiatives to support their workers in these overwhelming times, as improving staff wellbeing has been closely linked with job satisfaction and job retention.

Initiatives like 1-2-1 support meetings and additional development training were found to have had an positive impact on employee wellbeing (https://lnkd.in/eBSs2j6A)
