Rowland Brothers Funeral Directors

Rowland Brothers Funeral Directors Rowland Brothers is a family-run firm of funeral directors that has been serving the needs of Come and see us.

Rowland Brothers, funeral directors Croydon, have helped bereaved families as undertakers in Croydon and South London since 1873. Still very much a family firm, we're proud to serve clients from every religious denomination and ethnic group. We have worked closely with many families in the Croydon community to help deliver a professional and respectful funeral service. Our 147-year connection with the area makes us an active member of the community, and we aim to continue growing our family firm throughout Croydon and South London, to help even more bereaved families through the most difficult time of their lives.

We are truly grateful to David and his family for sharing their experience.

Planning a funeral and burial takes time and it should always move at a pace that feels right for the family.

From liaising with the parish and cemetery, to researching the burial plot and guiding each decision with care, our role is to provide clarity without pressure.

We understand how important it is to feel prepared. Taking the time to walk through the service beforehand, answering every question, and ensuring each detail is understood can make all the difference on the day.

Thank you for trusting us to support you during such an important farewell. It is always our privilege to guide families with patience, attentiveness and respect.

Honouring a life of service calls for dignity, precision and deep respect.

We are privileged to arrange military funerals that reflect the traditions of the Armed Forces and Emergency Services - including the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Artillery, Royal Air Force, Grenadier Guards, Royal Scots, World War II Special Forces, as well as members of the Police, Fire and Ambulance Services.

From the Union Flag draped with care to regimental wreaths, Standard Bearers and the sounding of the Last Post and Reveille, each tribute is carried out with the utmost respect and at no additional cost to families.

Our own history is rooted in service. Director Tony Rowland’s great grandfather, Admiral Reed, oversaw the crucial transition from wooden to ironclad warships, designing vessels like HMS Bellerophon, HMS Monarch, and HMS Devastation, as well as captained the last sailing warship in the British Royal Navy and mapped the China Sea. That legacy of duty and commitment continues within our firm today.

It is our honour to ensure those who have served their country and community are remembered with the recognition and ceremony they deserve.

When families are making decisions during a time of loss, cost can understandably be part of the conversation.

Direct cremation is often seen as a simpler, more affordable option. For some, that simplicity feels right. For others, it can mean there is no gathering, no shared farewell, and no dedicated moment to come together and acknowledge what has happened.

It’s important to be aware that choosing a direct cremation can have consequences. Without a ceremony or time set aside to mark the loss, some families find the reality takes longer to process. There may also be unexpected waiting times before the cremation takes place, which can add to feelings of uncertainty or lack of closure. A funeral is for the living. It creates space to grieve, to honour a life, and to support one another. It allows mourning to begin in a shared and meaningful way.

There is no right or wrong choice, only what feels appropriate for you and your family. What matters most is having the time, space and support to grieve in a way that feels right.

If you’re unsure which option is best, gentle guidance can help you understand what each path involves, so you can make a decision with clarity and care.

Every life is unique - and every funeral can be too.

For those who had a passion for cars, speed, engineering or simply the joy of driving, incorporating specialist vehicles into a funeral can be a powerful and fitting tribute. From supercars following the hearse to vintage classics, motorcycles, lorries, tractors or even horse-drawn carriages, we can help arrange a cortege that truly reflects their personality.

These details aren’t about spectacle - they’re about honour. About recognising what mattered to them. About creating a farewell that feels authentic.

Alongside vehicular tributes, we can also help with personalised stationery, meaningful music, symbolic gestures such as dove releases, and many other thoughtful touches.

However you choose to say goodbye, we’ll help you create something personal, respectful and true to the life being remembered.

We are deeply grateful to Lisa and her family for their kind words.

When someone passes away suddenly - especially abroad - it can feel overwhelming. In those moments, families place enormous trust in us to guide, support and care for their loved one with dignity.

From repatriation through to the service itself, our team works quietly behind the scenes to ensure every step is handled with professionalism and compassion. Keeping families informed. Treating their loved one with the utmost respect. Listening carefully to the stories that matter most.

It is always our privilege to help families honour a life in a way that feels personal and meaningful.

Our sincere thanks to Lisa and her family for allowing us to be part of such an important farewell.

For generations, the black horse-drawn carriage has been a symbol of dignity, respect and final tribute.

Long before motor vehicles, families entrusted these carriages to carry their loved ones with ceremony and honour. The tradition remains - not out of nostalgia, but because of what it represents: reverence, composure, and a final journey made with grace.

Behind every service is careful preparation.
The carriage polished.
The harness checked.
The horses groomed and steadied.
Uniforms pressed and immaculate.

These details are not for display. They are a mark of honour.

Choosing a cremation ceremony can give families something very important - time.

Time to gather.
Time to sit together.
Time to reflect, to share stories, and to begin gently processing what has happened.

For some, it offers space.
Space to pause before the next steps.
Space to honour a life in a way that feels calm and personal.

There is no right or wrong way to say goodbye. Some families prefer something simple and private. Others find comfort in a ceremony that allows them to come together and remember.

What matters most is that the farewell feels right for the people left behind.

Whatever you choose, it should give you the time and space you need - to grieve, to reminisce, and to honour your loved one in a way that feels meaningful to you.

We’re delighted to be back for year four of the Rowland Brothers Golf Day - and this one’s set to be bigger and better than ever.

Last year, together, we raised an incredible £22,500 for the Rowland Brothers Foundation. This year, with your help (and perhaps a few missed putts), we’re aiming even higher.

With 92 golfers already confirmed and a 144-player shotgun start, early bird spaces won’t be around for long. Expect a full 18-hole Stableford competition, great food and drinks, BBQ dinner, competitive mini-challenges, and a live auction hosted by the brilliant Aaron James - with some very familiar faces in attendance.

Even if golf isn’t your game, evening tickets are available and you’re warmly invited to join us.

We’d love to see returning faces and welcome plenty of new ones for a fantastic day in support of a very special cause. All proceeds will go to the Rowland Brothers Foundation.

Secure your place, gather your fourball, and we’ll see you on the tee.

Every life has a story and every farewell should honour it.
A message from our Chairman, Tony Rowland, captures what has guided our family for generations:

“At Rowland Brothers, we believe every farewell should be as individual as the life it honours. For generations, we’ve helped families create services filled with meaning, stories and personal touches – a true reflection of the person they love.”

At Rowland Brothers, it’s not just a service.
It’s a tribute.
It’s a legacy.
It’s a life, honoured with care.
