A charity in Croydon dedicated working with disabled people for disabled people. RUTHERFORD SCHOOL is an Independent Special School for up to 25 children aged 3 – 19 years with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), severe sensory impairment and complex medical needs. The curriculum delivers bespoke education integrated with physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, rebound therapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, music therapy and nursing care. The School has recently completed a new immersive learning space and separate sensory room both of which have been designed specifically to empower the pupils to effectively control their environment. JEAN GARWOOD HOUSE is a registered residential home for adults with a range of disabilities which prides itself on its sense of community. To meet their needs, the residents at the home are encouraged to lead as independent and sociable lives as possible with the support of the care team. BRAMLEY HILL CENTRE is a day centre for up to 60 adults aged 18 – 70+ with various disabilities such as cerebral palsy, degenerative and acquired disabilities. It provides a safe, friendly and supportive environment in which to enjoy social, educational and therapeutic activities and work opportunities.

Building work at the Rutherford School continues apace. In this installment of our timelapse you can see a noticeable and exciting addition - the air source heat pump arriving and beginning installation. As a charity, it's important for us to consider how we can run in the most economical way, and adding this will make a future difference to the whole infrastructure of our school. Another fab benefit of this ambitious project!

Forget the marathon and half marathons, if a couple of park runs are more your style, check out the Vitality 10k. We've got places available for 27th September 2026 and if you're an avid park runner looking for your next challenge, this is perfect. With a fundraising target of £150 all proceeds go towards completing our Space to Thrive at Rutherford School. Your run will be creating a new hydrotherapy pool, an extra classroom and accessible meeting space. Not bad for running 10k!

We had a fabulous day at Croham Hurst Golf Club yesterday thanks to this year's Ladies and men's captains. Ian, Cathy, and their fellow golfers have generously chosen Garwood as their charity of the year. Any fundraising will go to our Space to Thrive appeal completing the new hydrotherapy pool, extra classroom and accessible meeting space. We enjoyed being part of the Captain's Drive In, meeting new people and talking with them about Garwood and what we do. Thanks for having us.

featuring Rutherford School's Butterfly Day from Festival Week. In a week full of events like our Big Community Lunch and rainbow art, Butterfly Day provided a sensory space for reflection.
With a river of memories, letting go of worries, and a butterfly release. Students also spent time enjoying the sensory room as well as these gentle reflective activities.

Ahh the 1st of October and autumnal vibes are really settling in. If you're already missing the highs of summer, take a look at what Rutherford Students got up to during Sports Week back in July.
Students competed in a range of sports including bowling, archery, boccia, a colour splash and a group dance off. They decorated their classrooms with masks and flags in team colours and discovered how the human body works through sensory trays. We also welcomed a Disability Sports Coach for some guest sessions. It was a week full of laughter and friendly competition!

Catching up with build progress at Rutherford School. There has been a lot of detailed work going into the roof over the last few weeks, including the roof join between the new build housing the new hydrotherapy pool and the rest of the school. The skylights went in and the internal floor screed went down. External cladding around one of the doors is added too. The beautiful colour is such a contrast to the hard core. It's another step closer!
