A lovely day here at Garnet Therapeutic Counselling 🐴💚

We were so pleased to welcome James Noble, equine dentist, for our horses’ routine dental check-ups. We’re delighted to share that all of our horses passed — such a proud moment for our team!

Our horses are at the heart of everything we do, and keeping them happy, healthy, and comfortable means they can continue supporting the people who spend time with us.

A big thank you to James for his care and support, and to our community for being part of the journey with us.

What a lovely session this afternoon.

To start, we brushed Tonic. Our young friend loves to sing. When singing they are in their happy place.
We have discovered it is a fantastic way for them to ground and regulate themselves in order to make the transition from their day into the session.
Pepper freely came over to be with Tonic in the space and absorb the energy. Molly also came over (we had put her headcollar on ready to tie up but decided to let her move around at will).

We chatted about our mood and emotions affect those around us as well as how their singing calmed the horses and talked about our breathing and energy.
Next while.brushing Molly over by the hay feeder we listened to the sound of the horses munching and talked about how this calmed us.

Sit tight.......its a long one!

Proud to report that tonight, Tonic has been a proper little tinker!

I must check with his owner, but Im sure Tonic is 37 years young this year.
He chooses when to work, is in command of his little herd, tells me which gate he wants to go out of in the mornings (chooses his paddock) and throws in some moves when he sees fit.

Tonight ahead of the weather changing tomorrow before the storm forecast on Saturday I sent the boys to get the 3 amigos (Tonic, Pepper and Molly) in to put their rugs on. Simple really, out of the road end field, through the open gate across and onto the arena then over to their turnout areas for the night.

We were working to a different memo to Tonic.
Nope. Not time to come in.
Nope. We're not going through that gate.
Nope . We don't need rugs on right now..
Nope. Just. Nope.

Tonic and his little herd giving two teenagers the run around.
A few expletives and the next thing I saw were 3 ponies led by Tonic charging in canter through the gate and into the arena. Trotting onto their turnout in a proper strop with Callum and George hurtling behind them closing gates before Tonic changed his mind.

I can now report that Tonic, Molly and Pepper are on their turnout for the night with their rugs on before the weather changes tomorrow.

Good stuff. Go Tonic!!

Picture of Tonic being cute.....

🌸🐴 Spring Equinox & New Beginnings 🐴🌸

As the Spring Equinox brings a moment of balance between light and dark, it offers a gentle invitation to reset, reflect, and begin again.

At Garnet Therapeutic Counselling, our counselling with horses creates a calm, grounding space to explore this seasonal shift. Horses live fully in the present moment, helping us slow down, reconnect, and tune into what’s happening.

🌿 What are you ready to release as the seasons change?
🌱 What new growth are you welcoming into your life?

Surrounded by nature and supported by the quiet wisdom of horses, this can be a powerful time to restore balance, build self-awareness, and move forward with intention.

✨ Step into spring with curiosity, courage, and compassion for yourself.

Another one of those magical sunny, peaceful afternoons.

Tonic, Molly, Pepper and Bertie enjoying time without a rug on. Mutually grooming each other and being brushed by today's visitors.

As I went down to one particular session everything seemed to stand still. The ponies were all quietly watching our young friend who had got out of the car and approached the fence.

Approached the fence singing, I might add.

Jack in particular was captivated and slowly made his way forward.

So we worked with Jack. Mainly singing to him while we tried his new red headcollar on for size and brushed him. It was rather like being in musical snow globe with the music and Jack's white hair swirling around.

Magic.

Why is this picture special?
Let me set the scene:

Bertie and Jack had just had their turnout, the arena and access to the field all to themselves for most of the day, while Tonic, Pepper and Molly were on their wood chip turnout area.

We closed the gate off the arena as Jack was having a mooch around ( he doesn't like the hassle when we are p**p picking) and opened the gates at the back so that the ponies could go out.

Tonic and Pepper went straight out.

Ever since she arrived and until fairly recently, Molly would have been right behind them. Looking to them for guidance (Tonic) and comfort (Pepper).

We were over the moon today when Molly chose to do things on her terms showing a new confidence and security in herself.
She decided to stay where she was to eat some more haylage - despite being on her own while we worked around her. A little while later she slowly made her way out and across the first field to join her friends. No rushing, no panic. Just Molly doing her own thing on her terms.

Disclaimer:
Monday morning might be a slow start......
Here's how the weekend has started🤦‍♀️

After a day of packing yesterday, it was an early start this morning, down to Skipton for the sheepdog sales. Watched a supreme champion from 2025 bid to either 8 or 9k (I was holding Trevors hands down).
Then on down to Birmingham for the build-up, ready for the National Equine Show.
Just having a carvery for supper then arriving at our accommodation for the weekend.
An early night I think.
Thank you to the team at home (Aunty Jean), Callum and George looking after Gill and the horses.

🌿✨ Discover the Power of Equine Facilitated Therapy ✨🌿

At Garnet Therapeutic Counselling, healing happens in the most natural way — outdoors, on the edge of a working farm, surrounded by open skies, gentle sounds, and curious animals.

Our tranquil farm setting offers a calm and grounding space where you can step away from the noise of everyday life. With horses grazing nearby, farm animals quietly going about their day, and nature all around, clients often find it easier to breathe, reflect, and reconnect.

🐴 What is Equine Facilitated Therapy?
It’s a gentle, experiential form of therapy where working alongside horses helps build emotional awareness, confidence, trust, and resilience. You don’t need any horse experience — simply a willingness to be present.

💚 Horses are incredibly intuitive animals. They respond honestly and without judgement, helping you explore:
• Emotional regulation
• Anxiety and stress
• Trauma recovery
• Self-esteem and confidence
• Relationship patterns

Set within the peaceful rhythm of farm life, sessions provide a unique opportunity to slow down, feel grounded, and experience connection in a safe and supportive environment.

If you’re looking for a different kind of therapeutic space — one that feels open, calm, and alive — Equine Facilitated Therapy at Garnet Therapeutic Counselling could be the beginning of something powerful.

📩 Get in touch to learn more or book a session.
Healing doesn’t always happen in four walls — sometimes it happens in a field, beside a horse. 🌾🐴

Funny old day today.

Tonic was in a grump from the start. He flat out said no, and not to bother him from the get go. Today was not his day and just straightening the neck on his rug to refasten it was like fighting with an octopus.
Luckily Molly was in a much better humour and happily stood to have her mane and tail brushed and plaited while a young friend talked away.
Then this afternoon Bertie proved that he is not just a big black and white lump who breaks things. When needed he stepped forward, brought his head down over the gate and held the space for someone for almost half an hour while they stroked his head and neck, looked into his eyes, got lost in their thoughts and yes allowed the tears to flow. He offered them a warm, steady calming comfort.
