Our Tues night Personal and Spiritual Development group explored the topic of suffering and secondary suffering. We discussed how we add to our 'situations' by creating a narrative around that - which then creates more suffering.

We then looked at Leadership Embodiment. What it means to be inclusive and how we can be committed to cultivating something in our life or cutting it out, letting something go.

It was a powerful evening. A huge amount of courage was brought into the space. A huge well done to everyone who participated and who took part!

Some of our Nestlings recently stayed at Samye ling Buddhist temple on a course called "Changing the habits of a lifetime".

A powerful opportunity to reflect on the habitual power of thought. How our perception can create a reactive state of being. Learning about how we can reprogram our brains & how through compassion practices & mindfulness we can rewire the neuro pathways.

It was a fulfilling & beautiful opportunity & everyone got something different from it.

Breakfast was...... Mmm.... What's some words we could use to describe it!? 🤔

It's not just a breakfast group.. where people share conversations, eat together, have a cuppa ☕

It's more than that... So we asked people and here are some replies.

Breakfast group is.........

❤️Coming home

❤️Friends and family

❤️Warmth, physically & emotionally

❤️Safety & welcoming (dont have that anywhere else)

❤️Togetherness, so many different people I would never have met

❤️Fun, there's always something going on

❤️Support - I have been able to sort out my housing when here because had a cuppa wae housing staff

❤️Connection, I live alone so this is only place I get to talk to folk

❤️I came in wae 4 different things going on in ma life & got support wae them all at breakfast group

❤️Friendly, everyone talks to you even if you don't know them, no judgment or that

For me (Nat) the breakfast group is the most beautiful space. Yip.... It's busy and can feel chaos... But also calming. I stand for a moment and witness something beautiful each time... People connecting in our Association of Camerados living room, no agenda.... No fixing.... No disrespecting. I witness support, laughter, sometimes tears .... But a see a family, acceptance, reduction in stigma...

So yes, it's a cuppa and a roll in sausage... But it is so much more!

If you have visited breakfast group, shared your time with us maybe reflect..... What is or was your experience like?

❤️❤️ PLEASE put in the comments either one word that describes the breakfast group to you, how you felt there, was there something that stood out? Did we help? .... Or tell us more. 🤞🤞🤞

Loving this wee group and how it's organically become something quite special ❤️❤️

Alan here. It was music project time today with The Nest Wellbeing Group - Cumnock , Rock 'n' Role Models and The Cumnock Tryst.

We’ve been working on a couple of things, today’s addition was special though. 🤩

One of the women who attends can speak, therefore sing, Scots Gaelic.

A simple chord progression on the keys, a gentle rhythm, some peaceful strumming and picking on the guitar led to something that sounded, and felt quite hauntingly beautiful. The singing worked so well with the music. It complimented things perfectly, it was fantastic. 🤩

I’m looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

Yesterday at The Nest we had Recovery Skills. Each week the group meets to explore techniques & discuss methods to support Recovery.

It was such a beautiful day they then went a wellness walk.... And embraced some tree hugging (of course 😁).

❤️ Physiological Health Benefits- Immune System Boost: Trees emit phytoncides (antimicrobial essential oils) to protect themselves. When inhaled by humans, these compounds increase the activity of Natural Killer (NK) cells, which help fight infections and cancer.

❤️Reduced Stress Hormones: Physical contact with trees or even just being near them lowers cortisol levels, the body's primary stress hormone.

❤️Cardiovascular Health: Regular interaction with nature is linked to lowered blood pressure, reduced heart rate, and improved heart-rate variability.

❤️Grounding (Earthing): Physical contact with a tree trunk or walking barefoot on forest soil allows the body to absorb electrons from the Earth, which may reduce inflammation and improve sleep quality.

❤️Mental and Emotional BenefitsRelease of "Happy" Hormones: Hugging a tree for at least 21 seconds triggers the release of oxytocin, often called the "love hormone," which promotes feelings of trust, bonding, and calm.

It also stimulates serotonin and dopamine.

❤️Anxiety and Depression Relief: Studies indicate that "forest therapy" significantly improves mood and can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

❤️Enhanced Cognitive Function: Nature exposure is shown to improve focus, concentration, and creativity by giving the brain a break from the overstimulation of modern technology—a concept known as Attention Restoration Theory

❤️ Spiritual and Connection Benefits- Mindfulness and Grounding: The tactile sensation of tree bark helps anchor individuals in the present moment, acting as a form of "active meditation".

❤️Environmental Stewardship: Forming an emotional or physical bond with a tree often fosters a deeper sense of responsibility toward the environment and conservation efforts.

❤️Cultural Connection: The practice roots back to ancient traditions, such as the Chipko Movement in India (protecting forests through physical embraces) and Indigenous beliefs in trees as wise elders or conduits of spiritual energy.

So.... there's real benefits in hugging trees....try it ❤️😁🙏😊🌲🌳

The Nest was busy as always last week. Breakfast group saw over 70 people visit over the 2 hours. Our Association of Camerados living room providing a safe space where people can just be... Be alongside each other.

In the afternoon our Moving Up Moving On Recovery group was well attended with people showing support to each other and commitment to their recovery journey.

The music group was brilliant too with people really getting into it. One of our Nest family members was really dubious about attending it initially as previous experiences in her life really had her having an aversion to even considering a music group. And there she was last week.... Singing fae the tap o her lungs ... Belting it oot & loving it!! Super proud of her. She commented "I can't believe how much I love this group! I would never have believed I could take part & it's the highlight of ma week. Music isn't just for ....... It's also fur me, i wullnae let anybody take music fae me again. I am even singing et hame, I huv been watchin' music programmes & huv bin writing lyrics Ready to share!" .... Her comments warm my heart 🎵🎶🎸

Meanwhile, our program at Bowhouse concluded. Ready to begin again this coming week with a new group. 🪘❤️
