We are now more or less back to normal following the lifting of most Covid restrictions. The only restriction remaining is that we would ask you to wear a mask when entering the practice and that you let us know if you have a appointment and are suffering any Covid symptoms - a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. shortness of breath.
Currently we are only accepting new patients who already have a family member who is a patient at the practice.

From early November we have moved into 'Phase 4' in dentistry and in theory are returning to normal.
However, we have a huge backlog of work to catch up with. From treatments yet to be completed from before the lockdown to problems which have arisen within the last 6 months and daily calls from people with urgent problems.
We are limited to seeing a maximum of 10 patients a day and have to close the practice between patients for up to 90 minutes each time an aerosol generating instrument such as a high speed drill or ultrasonic scaler is used.
Our aim is to prioritize those patients in pain and gradually work our way through any outstanding work before getting in touch with all patients to arrange routine examinations.
Things in the practice remain very different with more PPE being used, special precautions being taken and even more thorough cleaning of the surgery between patients. The waiting room, including the toilet, is largely out of use with patients being asked to remain in their cars where possible till we are ready for them.
We thank you for your patience during these difficult times.

We are currently in phase 3 of the reopening of dental surgeries following lockdown. At the moment we are still very limited in the treatment we can provide extractions, temporary fillings and assessment of any dental problems. As of August 17th we will be allowed to do a little more but really we are only trying to keep people out of pain until 'phase 4' when we hope to return to some sort of normality. I will post a copy of the most recent advice from Peter Omner the Ayrshire and Arran Director of Dentistry.

As of Monday 22nd of June the Scottish government has allowed dental practices to open but only in a vastly reduced capacity seeing a limited amount of patients each day and only providing basic dental treatment to get patients out their pain. This treatment could include simple extractions, temporary fillings and provision of antibiotics. We are not permitted to carry out any drilling or even use the air and water spray as this can cause an aerosol spray which can spread the Covid-19 virus if it is present.
Basically during phase 2 of this easing of lockdown we are only treating people in pain and taking a look a any 'lumps and bumps' that you may be concerned about.
Any appointments must be made by phone. We will assess each patient for any Covid-19 risk (anyone at risk of harbouring the virus can be referred to a dedicated clinic).
On attending the practice you will be expected to wait in your car (or at the front door) till we are ready to bring you straight into the surgery. You will not be put in the waiting room and you will not be able to
use the toilet in the practice. There will be no charges made for these basic treatments during this period.
We cannot do any denture work or repairs until phase 3 of the easing of the lockdown and any treatments involving drills will not be available until stage 4.The Scottish government will be responsible for determining when these phases are brought in.

Dental surgeries in Scotland have now been advised to no longer see patients within the practice. Treatment will therefore be limited to advice and prescriptions where necessary.
Any patients requiring urgent treatment will be referred to dental treatment centres within the Ayrshire area where treatment will be largely relief of pain and infection by extraction.
The numbers to call are given in the post below.

CORONAVIRUS INFORMATION

Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are limited to seeing only those patients with dental emergencies. We would ask that patients make any appointments by phone first and that on arrival at the practice to use the doorbell to gain entry.

Before entering the waiting room you will be asked to wash your hands in the toilet. Please follow government guidelines and wash thoroughly. To allow social distancing we aim to keep the number of people in the waiting room at any any time to a minimum.
Anyone showing signs of a COVID-19 infection such as a new persistent cough and/or a fever should make us aware of this BEFORE entering the practice. Special arrangements will be made to deal with your dental problem.

The practice is likely to be operating on a reduced timetable. We have formed a rota with the other Cumnock practices so that all emergency patients can be treated. If you are not able to be seen in this practice. The rota is as follows -
(all local 01290 code)

Monday - Knockroon Dental Practice 420048
Tuesday - Millbank Dental Practice 421226
Wednesday - Knockroon Dental Practice 420048
Thursday - This Practice
Friday - Neo Dental Practice 425108

Out of hours and weekends call 111

We thank you for bearing with us during these difficult times and hope to resume a normal service as soon as circumstances allow.
Please stay safe.
