Stress and what Reflexology can do for you. 🩵

When we are stressed our body's defences break down and we become more susceptible to illness and disease.

It is widely agreed these days that many health issues can be linked to stress. Reflexology provides an opportunity to interrupt this pattern of stress, and aims to encourage the body to tap in to its innate self healing abilities.

Reflexologists do not diagnose, prescribe or treat specific conditions. What our gentle therapy does is to support the recipient with whatever is going on for them, which may be physically, mentally and/or emotionally.

Here are some of the things that people often report as benefits following reflexology:

* Reduced stress
* Deeper relaxation
* Improved circulation
* Pain level management
* Support healthy sleep patterns
* Improved immune system
* Better energy levels
* Calm digestive problems
* Ease muscular tension and pain
* Calm restless leg syndrome
* Stimulate nerve function
* Reduce headaches and migraines
* Support hormone rebalance
* Enhance medical care
* Ease the symptoms of various conditions
* Etcetera etcetera

Anyway, just imagine a reflexology session combing feet, hands, and ears ….. aaaaahh! 😌

And … Never underestimate the capacity of the body to heal, and the power of REFLEXOLOGY to support it to do so.

Facial reflexology is another area in which the stimulation of zones and points of the face are utilised to create an environment in which other areas of the body can be affected, with many possible benefits.

Whilst facial work it has been practiced in some form for centuries in many countries around the world, it is the newest of the reflexology platforms. The treatment is unique in its combination of ancient therapies with modern neuro-anatomy.

Facial Reflexology involves the application of pressure and massage to specific points on the face.

It is deeply relaxing and can be very effectively combined with work on any of the other reflexology surfaces in the same session.

Gosh, imagine a reflexology session combing feet, hands, ears and face ….. aaaaahh! 😌

Ear Reflexology (Auricular Therapy) is based on the idea that the body is mapped on to the ears as a micro system, just like on the hands and feet.

It has a history starting from around 500 BC, and is the most scientific of the reflexology platforms.

Visualizing the body on the ears is easily remembered as an image of the body in an inverted foetal shape. The lobe of the ear becomes the head, with the neck and entire spine extending up the curve of the outer ear.👂

A Reflexologist uses their fingers and thumbs to work all surfaces of the ear.

With Ear Reflexology there is also the addition of being able to apply an Ear Seed, to a specific point on the ear to further assist with numerous issues in the body. These are tiny seeds or balls that are held in place with a little plaster so that they can exert subtle pressure to the selected point(s).

Ear Reflexology can be enjoyed as a stand alone treatment or combined in a session with other reflexology, and has the possibility of some rather phenomenal and rapid results.

If you’ve not ever experienced a the ear work, then I highly recommend that you give it a try.

The great thing about Reflexology is that the feet are not the only surface that has a reflexology ‘map’ on it. There are also charted reflex points of the human body all over the body.

Typically reflexology is also performed on the hands, ears and face. Reflexologists often do further study and training to add working on these surfaces to their menu of services.

Hand Reflexology has a very special place in a reflexologists repertoire. 🤲

When a client arrives in our practice with an injured foot, amputation of the leg/foot, or some other reason why we can not work their feet, or maybe even just one of their feet, then Hand Reflexology is an alternative that offers the same ‘healing’ potential as the feet.

Working on the hands also provides a beautiful therapeutic connection when working on older clients, people who are very ill, or emotionally overwhelmed. And of course it is just lovely for hands that work hard physically every day of their lives!☺️

It is easy to work on the hands, and also a great platform for teaching self-help techniques that clients can use between their sessions with us.

All the same reflex points that are found on the feet are found on the hands and wrists.

The left hand represents the left hand side of the body. The right hand the right side of the body.

If you’ve not ever experienced a Hand Reflexology session then I highly recommend that you ask your Reflexologist to include a bit of hand work in your next session.💙

Fondly known as the ‘Mother of Reflexology’, Eunice Ingham was born in South Dakota in 1889. She went on to work as a physiotherapist, and it was through this work that she was introduced to Zone Therapy (see my post yesterday 😉)

Through her own research and evidence using the ten zones of the body she mapped the whole body’s organs and systems on the feet, developing the foot chart of modern reflexology.👣

Her technique is what is practised all over the world today.🌎

The lovely image of Eunice working on her husband’s feet is taken from her book “Stories the Feet Can Tell”.

Eunice's life-long goal was to help people as much as she was able, whenever, and wherever.

This is still the collective wish of Reflexologists all over the world.💙

With our geographical position on the world map here in New Zealand we are the first to start every day, every year and every WORLD REFLEXOLOGY WEEK, so here goes …

The image in this post is a very well known one to all Reflexologists. It is a Zone Therapy Chart. 📝

Zone Therapy Theory is accepted as the precursor to modern Reflexology as we know it today and was used as far back as 1500 A.D. Zone theory was introduced by Sir Henry Head, a London based neurologist, in 1893. He found that the whole body and limbs could be marked into areas which correspond to the distribution of the pain given off from one segment of the spinal cord. 🤔

Zone Therapy was further developed by Dr. William H. Fitzgerald. Dr Fitzgerald was an ear, nose and throat specialist. (1872–1942) He verified that pressure on various parts of the body, hands, fingers, mouth and feet, could be used to bring about a numbing effect on another area of the body.

In Zone Therapy the body is divided into ten equal longitudinal zones, 5 on each side of the mid line of the body. Each toe and finger defines a specific zone; therefore there are five zones per foot/hand. The zones are distributed up the body like slices.

Zone Therapy is based on the concept that within these zones, energy runs up and down between all the parts of the body. It involved applying pressure to a part of the body to influence the functioning of other parts situated in the same longitudinal zone but distant from the part of the body to which pressure was applied. A blockage of the body’s natural energy may have an effect on any organ or part of the body that lies within that particular zone and may create an energy imbalance in any part of the body within that zone. 🤢

A very special lady built on this information to develop Reflexology as we know it today …. But I’ll tell you about her tomorrow. 💙

📢THE WAIT IS OVER! Finally, I look at the Gallbladder channel and its 44 acupuncture points, functions, and location made easy.

Without a doubt, the TCM Gallbladder is such the perfect organ for the TCM Liver within the Zang Fu organ theory in Chinese medicine. 🧐

The Gallbladder system is fantastic for reinforcing the TCM Liver system in many ways! First by relaxing the body and moving Qi.

Then by addressing temporal headaches, tinnitus brought on by stress, and many syndromes affecting the TCM liver patterns.

Lastly, it supports the Liver's goals and vision by making decisions easily.

Let me know what you think and keep rocking it with acupuncture! 😍

Everything is energy, and energy is vibration. Your body is a symphony of vibrations.

When all its organs and energy channels vibrate in unison, they make a beautiful music called “health.”

When, little by little, each organ and energy channel loses its rhythm and gets out of tune, your body becomes a tangled clatter of vibrations. Chaos. Let it go like this long enough, and illness is the natural result. This is the Qigong view.

And as far as your health goes, the Qigong view is that energy flows all through the body in channels.

When the channels are open and energy is abundant, you experience health; when the channels get blocked, the body’s energy becomes unbalanced – too much here, too little there.

Naturally, this affects the organs and how they work. If they start not to work well – within themselves and with each other, – the body creates all kinds of dysfunction and opens up to all kinds of outside influences. This is called illness or disease.

How do you bring harmony and health back to your body?

How do you bring all its organs and energy channels into such a powerful, unified vibration of energy, into such overwhelming resonance that it effortlessly shakes off any lesser vibration or simply absorbs it harmlessly into its own greater harmony?

It begins with a moment of relaxation.

That moment of relaxation, of silence, of stillness, lets the clatter quiet, the bustle settle, opening the door for the return of your healing intelligence.

In that moment of silence, stillness, and relaxation, your organs and energy channels have an opportunity to take up harmonious vibrations again.

And in that moment of relaxation, you have an opportunity to use your consciousness to help your body to do that.

Many Blessings,
Chunyi Lin
