❤️ Understanding Your Blood Pressure ❤️
Blood pressure is an important indicator of your overall health, yet many people aren’t sure what the numbers actually mean.
When you have your blood pressure checked, you’ll see two numbers, for example 120 / 80.
🩺 What the Numbers Mean
Top Number (Systolic Pressure)
This measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats and pumps blood around the body.
Bottom Number (Diastolic Pressure)
This measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats.
Both numbers matter because they show how hard your heart is working to circulate blood.
⚠️ When Blood Pressure Is High
Consistently high readings (often 140 / 90 or higher) can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and other health issues.
Many people don’t feel symptoms, which is why it’s often called the “silent condition.”
💡 What You Can Do If Your Reading Is High
• Stay calm and recheck after a few minutes of rest
• Reduce salt intake and eat a balanced diet
• Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight
• Limit alcohol and stop smoking
• Manage stress with relaxation, movement, or breathing exercises
• Speak to your GP or healthcare professional if readings remain high
🏃♀️ Regular movement, healthy habits, and routine checks can make a big difference in keeping your heart healthy.
❤️ Looking after your heart starts with understanding the numbers.
