Whenever a person wants to improve or change something in their life, it always comes at a great cost. If you are saving for that car or holiday you go without today. This can also be applied to our social, mental and physical needs. At TLC Community Church Wellbeing Center, we have many who come in with particular needs, from basic food needs caused by food poverty to suicidal thoughts and mental
health. It can be very daunting for a man or woman to make a change in their life. We at the wellbeing centre, have seen many extremely brave determined people. They took the journey to betterment. The biggest battle a person faces when wanting to change is resistance from social and government policy. When we phone a doctor for an appointment, if we don't hyperbolise our symptoms, we never get an appointment. We exaggerate our condition otherwise we won't get the appointment. This also happens with government provisions like PIP, Universal credit, and housing benefits. Getting a new job must be weighed up against the loss of housing benefits. To address anxiety or depression is weighed against the loss of PIP. Processing change in oneself can be an emotional rollercoaster. It has been described as "the lowest point of anyone's life". this is the time they need a cheerleader, they need an applauding audience to support them. An acknowledgement of their efforts and patience in their progress. There was a man who was homeless for a couple of years. This Man decided to put changes into his life, and finally, he was given a bedsit. He quotes "In that bedsit was the worst time in my life, I went into a deep depression" he goes on to say, "When I was homeless I had attention, sympathy and if someone gives me a tenner, I would have a tenner to do with what I like. Sat in the bedsit, lonely with no attention and support. Every penny is allocated to a bill. Many times I considered going back on the road, the process of change is very costly". I'm glad to say this man showed great perseverance finally his started to come to order. TLC Community Church has become through the well-being a "cheerleader" group, applauding those who are willing to make the change. As a Christian church, we all recognise the power of change. The moment we accept Jesus, we are in a process of change. Being a church we believe in true discipleship that is coming alongside anyone who needs that extra support.
