Session 3 was all about letting go.
Each participant created a piece showing hands releasing petals, a simple image that carries quite a powerful meaning. We spoke about how letting go is rarely neat or perfect, and how creativity doesn’t need to be either. Some paintings were soft and delicate, some bold and expressive, and some changed many times along the way. That’s part of the process.
One participant shared something beautiful about her piece. She said the way she had painted it felt like shedding, like a snake shedding its skin. When she said it out loud, we realised how fitting that was with this being the Chinese Year of the Snake, a year that symbolises renewal, transformation and releasing what no longer serves us. She was also really drawn to feathers and instinctively knew they needed to be part of her painting, which felt like a gentle symbol of freedom and lightness.
Others found themselves looking at their artwork again and again, feeling like something was missing. That moment of pause, reflection and adjustment is actually a big part of the creative process. Sometimes we only discover what needs to be added when we sit with something for a little while.
And that’s exactly what this session was about. Not rushing. Not forcing. Just allowing things to emerge in their own time.
Every piece tells a slightly different story of letting go, and seeing them all together shows just how many ways that journey can look.
