I am Amy and I am a qualified clinical hypnotherapist, Sleeptalk practitioner, coach and certified yoga teacher (CYT 200) offering a range of solutions that can help you cope with life's challenges - be it overcoming stress and anxiety, improving performance, taking control over a phobia, improving confidence and self esteem, changing behaviours and getting rid of unwanted habits or simply feeling better about yourself (amongst many others).

I first experienced hypnotherapy almost ten years ago and I've not looked back since! Experiencing it from a client's perspective and realising the profound changes it had on me led me to train as a therapist. I have a great passion for helping others and it is my privilege that I can support people to instigate the changes that they would like to make in their lives. I have seen so many wonderful success stories over the years and it has been a real pleasure to be with clients as they work towards what is right and appropriate for them.

I have been working in the area of training and personal development throughout my career having originally graduated with an honours degree in psychology. I built on this with further qualifications in teaching, training, professional coaching, clinical hypnotherapy and hypnobirthing. Working as a practitioner in this area for many years across the public, private and voluntary sector, I have found hypnotherapy to be an effective way of helping people to overcome barriers that are impeding their lives. I have worked with individuals and groups across the UK, Ireland and internationally to identify the personal and/ or team outcomes that are important to them. By tapping into their own unique set of skills, resources, and capabilities, I have supported my clients with identifying and implementing the changes they want to see in their lives. My hypnotherapy practice is underpinned by life coaching, self management, neurolinguistic programming (NLP), cognitive behavioural therapy and solution focussed brief therapy principles. Essentially, this means that I work in a direct and goal focussed way: what is it you want to achieve and what is the best way for you to get there?

I was really saddened to read of the death of Catherine O’Hara last week. What an absolute legend.

Home Alone - such a big part of my childhood - and Schitt’s Creek… an amazing show. It brought me so much joy and laugh out loud moments.

And her one liners- gosh she stole the show for me.

I never had the ‘tiny boobies’ problem, but this quote is a classic.

Rest in peace and thank you for the laughs

Ever heard that phrase ‘she/he got out of the wrong side of the bed’?

A lot of these old phrases have a lot of truth.

Each morning, your nervous system makes a critical decision within the first 90 seconds of waking:

It scans how you are feeling internally, assesss the environment and imprints a neuro chemical pattern that influences the rest of your day - every interaction, decision and every response.

In that first 30 seconds upon waking, your nervous system comes online. It scans the environment to establish safety (or not)

In the next 30-60 seconds, based on that scan it releases neurochemicals: the stress hormone cortisol if it senses threat. Oxytocin the love hormone if it feels safe. Dopamine the reward hormone if it anticipates reward.

In seconds 60-90,these chemicals flood the body and create what science terms the ‘neurochemical signature’. This becomes the lens through which the rest of your day is filtered and how you interpret what happens in the next 12-16 hours.

If your nervous system locks into hypervigilance during this window, you'll find those threats in every place you look - in your partner's tone, in a received email, even within interactions with random people on the street.

If it settles into sadness or futility during this window, everything will feel heavy, pointless, overwhelming.

If it anchors into safety during this window, things become become manageable, the world feels hopeful and the days is manageable, even uplifted.

This 90 second pattern repeats through the day,but most of us are oblivious to it.

Like everything, the first step is to notice and observe. Awareness brings that cue to invite in change. Small steps. Powerful steps that can lead to a more uplifting neurochemical response.

Whilst change is not easy, the tools that can bring big results are not difficult.

I often suggest to clients to put an alarm reminder in their phone or Alexa to remind them a few times a day to take a pause: a 60 second window where they can turn off the switch and breathe deeply.

It’s simple. But in time, can teach a heightened nervous system a soothing rhythm.

If you’d like support, drop me a line if my page resonates. We can arrange a time to talk about how I can support you.

Yesterday we celebrated Imbolc. In the Celtic Wheel,Imbolc celebrates the first light of Spring.

I’ve enjoyed wintering this year. I’ve hibernated well and have felt really nourished by the longer and cosier nights. I feel more restored than I have by a Winter season in a really long time. But I’m ready now to start peeping out and I’m enjoying watching the shoots.

‘Imbolc’ translates to “in the belly”, the time of incubation, germination- readying for the new beginnings of Spring. We are also near the time of Lunar New Year. Time-wise, it is the mid-way point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Whilst we’re moving towards Spring, it is still classed as Winter in this part of the world. Imbolc for me however is a wonderful invitation to take the restorative energy of winter and use as a time for nurturing, for preparing, and for getting ready for the change of seasons, a time to welcome more light back into your life. Imbolc is like the little seed in the ground that is beginning to wake up. You might not see it happening yet,but it’s beginning to shake off its husk in preparation to slowly emerge.

Last night,we released our worries to flame (one of the symbols associated with Imbolc), we offered up our intentions and we howled under the light of a full moon. Well I howled… my kids told me to stop being so weird. They were in it for the marshmallows.

I look forward to celebrating Imbolc / Brigit next Sunday with a wonderful group of women. This event is sold out but there are still a few spaces for a repeat event on the 1st of March @ 9.15-13.15 (£48)

If you’d like to book, please drop me a line. It will be a beautiful event celebrating growth, new beginnings and light.

Here's what a few people have had to say:

💖The best yoga class I have ever been to💖

💖This class is a healing experience 💖

💖I feel my shoulders drop the minute I walk into the room 💖

💖The highlight of my week - thank you for offering it💖

💖So relaxing for body and mind💖

💖It's the hour in the week where I don't need to think about looking after anyone but me 💖

For those who have considered coming to a yoga class, but have felt that they are not fit enough, or not flexible enough or don't have a particular body shape - I hear you. I had those same feelings before I embarked on my personal yoga journey.

This is why I wanted to create a class for everyone who wanted to develop flexibility , strength and of course cultivate feelings of deep relaxation.

Irrespective of skill level; it is a real treat for body and mind.

Sometimes all you need is a hug. That was me earlier when my lovely husband’s spidey sense was activated. You just can’t beat a good hug!

I often refer to touch in yoga classes, including self touch- crossing arms in a self embrace for instance- because we know that it releases oxytocin (the love hormone) , serotonin and dopamine. All which reduce cortisol (the stress hormone).

Interestingly a hug - in addition to expected benefits such as improving mood, connection and bonding and strengthening feelings of safety, has also been shown to strengthen immunity, whilst also easing pain (probably as much emotionally as physically) and lowering blood pressure.

It would seem that there is a magic number in terms of time; with 20 second hugs indicating that hugs may reduce stress and blood pressure as well as promoting heart health.

An excellent excuse to get hugging (not that you ever need an excuse!)

Yoga classes this week were all about cultivating joy. I firmly and very fundamentally believe that cultivating the art of finding joy helps contribute to a very content and fulfilled life.

The thing I am most grateful for - and I thank my Dad for this one - is for my eyes. I was encouraged as a child to find beauty in the most normal of things. I’ve brought this into my adult life (and I try to support my children to Do the same). I’m easily pleased and have a tendency to find joy in all kinds of places.

I look forward to the little moments and find pockets of joy even in challenging times.

One of the exercises I often suggest to clients is the simple act of gratitude and appreciation for the common things in our day to day life- the food we eat,the house we live in,the people we are in contact with. It seems very simple but in my opinion it was one of the most powerful things we can do to live a more fulfilled and joyful life.

Repeated studies by the HeartMath Institute show, individuals who intentionally focus on appreciation or other positive emotions can change their heart rhythm patterns from chaotic to smooth and rhythmic, like ocean waves.

Furthermore, heart‑focused, sincere, hopeful feeling states boost the immune system, while negative emotions may suppress the immune response for up to six hours.

This week’s classes focussed on heart expansive expressions: lots of uplifted arm movements, eagle poses, child poses ,twists - all with a focus on the heart centre.

Classes this week will be a welcome to Imbolc; growth, creativity and new beginnings.

See you from Sunday on the mat 🌺

I love a bargain. But I’m equally happy to pay good cash for something that’s worth it.

Here’s one… I bought this having tried so many products over the years.

I’m a chilly wee soul. I’m always freezing, often wear multiple coats in deep winter and I wear gloves frequently all year round to help my white fingers.

Some of the products I’ve bought in the past were ok but would invariably slip off my waist if I was walking around too much.

This one is a cut above. Im banging on about it to anyone who will listen to me! The water bottle stays warm for hours and hours. It’s got a great cover so you’re warm but not too warm. And it goes over the body and shoulder so wont slip off when I’m out walking my dogs. Best. Thing. Ever!

And it has a little pocket to stick my paws in - Perfect for my little Raynaud’s fingers.

I’m not long in from a sea dip and usually I spend half an hour in the shower getting the heat back into me,especially at this time of year. But this is just the best solution. Month 2 and I just love it so much. Worth every penny.

If you’re a cold soul, like me I honestly can’t recommend this product enough 💓 well done Chill Chaser

Something my daughter said to me recently got me thinking

She had had a confidence knock and was being really hard on herself. She told me that I didn’t understand because I had a really happy life.

My response to her: I do have a happy life. An incredibly happy life. But it doesn’t mean that I haven’t had significant challenges. It also doesn’t mean that I don’t have to work darn hard to sustain my happiness.

I don’t believe any person has an easy life. Whether behind closed doors or not, every single person has big challenges. I’ve never met someone who hasn’t.

But I also believe we have an opportunity every single day to start again and bring happiness into our lives.

It didn’t mean that life isn’t hard. Or challenging. But joy and hope can be found everywhere when we choose to look for them
