We are now open from 0830-1230 every day.
1400-1730 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Tuesday afternoons are emergency only.

Working in Dispensary without IT backup was a challenge yesterday. Dr. Bird would like to thank Kay Campbell and Cait MacDonald for their sterling work. Cait, under remote instruction from the NHSWI IT department, ensured that one computer is now up and running. This was not an easy task for anyone. Cait is working in a trainee capacity. Kay remained level headed throughout. Cait and Kay are still ploughing through an exceptionally large backlog of work. SUMP is indebted to to Cait, Kay and Ali from IT - THANK YOU.

Dr. Bird requests that patients use a SUMP Blood pressure report sheet. Recently, we have received a few readings without patient names. Do ask for a report sheet by e-mail or in person at the front desk.
When you're taking your blood pressure at home there are things you can do to help get an accurate reading.
Try to:
Sit on an upright chair with a back
Place your feet flat on the floor
Rest your arm on a table and relax your hand and arm
Wear something with short sleeves so the cuff does not go over clothes
Relax, breathe normally and do not talk during the test
take another reading a few minutes after your first reading to check it's accurate.

Blood Pressure Monitoring
Many of our patients have been asked to monitor their own Blood Pressure at home - and thank you to those for completing the Blood Pressure diaries. The evidence is that this gives an accurate reflection of resting BP - the most useful measurement.
We have been in a position to loan out BP monitors (technical term ‘sphygmomanometers’) but our stocks have been exhausted despite the very generous past donation from one patient.
If anyone has a loaned monitor that they can return to us for reuse that would be most helpful. Likewise for anyone who is in a position to purchase a monitor of their own this will add resilience to their own healthcare as well as support our practice activities. In this endeavour please take care to purchase a monitor with a cuff that suits your size and build.

July 29th when normal service will resume.

Please pick up medication in the afternoons between 13.30 -17.30. Please remember the Dispensary is closed on a Tuesday afternoon
