Received a letter from Midlothian Council Re wheeled bins

I am writing to inform you that I object to green wheeled bins causing further obstruction to foot paths in Midlothian.

at present there is insufficient room on the foot paths and the village to allow the safe passage of perambulators and wheelchairs. As a wheelchair user who has expressed his displeasure to the existing amount of wheeled bins already being used .

Limiting my accessibility is a breach of my human rights, so before issuing a new wheeled bin please widen the footpaths to the minimum width which the highways act 1980 state as 3 meters. The east side of Powdermill Brae does not come close, The footpath outside 87 Birkenside is the same, the footpaths on Station Road, Gorebridge east side does no exist . The footpaths on east side of Gorebridge main street, near to bus stop already have wheeled bins blocking the foot path. Meaning I have to manoeuvre the wheeled bin onto highway to get past.

There is an idea lets put all wheeled bins on the public highway.

There has been no consultation with people living in the villages in Midlothian . There needs to another method of collecting waste that does not block footpaths.

This is just a waste of money.

I am a user of this Food Pantry and I agree that being able to choose is essential. I like many others have food intolerances that means choice allows me to purchase what I can tolerate. Today my daughter and I did a shop and for £5.50 I got a great choice, two full bags! There is still some festive food items so my daughter scored a chocolate Santa to keep her going. Plus I had a great chat with the young lad who took me around. Please support your local Food charities like Food Facts Friends. Picture of my shop in the comments.

Such an important read.

JU**IE, ALKY, TRAMP, WASTER, SCUM!!

These are commonplace phrases and expressions we hear everyday. Steps to Hopes purpose is to aid and support the homeless and those suffering from addiction. But we wanted to help open people’s eyes, to educate people, and more importantly to change some of the public’s perceptions. We wanted to not label someone just homeless, or an addict...but to tell their name, share their story. This is someone’s son or daughter. The correct terminology is SUFFERING ADDICT. No one ever set out to be addicted to drugs, to loose their family and suffer on the streets with no home. But this is where addiction takes you. We at STH decided with permission of a select few we work with, to document their journeys and story’s so our followers and the public can see what addiction/homelessness and more importantly RECOVERY truly means. We have been delighted with the response of our followers, the encouragement our guys have received has been incredible. The guys who’s stories we have followed have said how much all the kind and encouraging comments they have received has blown them away. From feeling like they had no one, no support and no way out, to find they have a community backing them all the way has urged them on even more. STH wanted to start to build a community, a togetherness 🙏🏻❤️. A foundation that’s built on love, compassion, support and care, with no judgment or unkindliness will get results🙏🏻❤️. No one gets well when having their self esteem taken away, no one gets well when they feel not part off and cut off from their community. STH would like to thank all our followers for their support, love and encouragement they have shown when following peoples journeys.

Congratulations Baby Emma, you've got an amazing literary adventure ahead of you! The ECALM programme sounds great.

🎉Pictured are proud parents Zara and Samuel Burton with their new baby Emma – the very first baby to have her birth registered in Midlothian this year!

Emma today also became the newest and youngest member of Midlothian Libraries, thanks to the Every Child a Library Member (ECALM) programme.

Under this scheme parents can sign up their child for library membership at the same time as registering their birth – giving every child the gift of stories and learning from day one.

Also pictured (back row left to right) are Assistant Registrar Rebecka Pettersson, Bookbug (part of the Scottish Book Trust’s national Early Years programme), Cllr Ellen Scott and Wendy Johnston from Midlothian Libraries.
