Michelle Y Wakerell - Hypnotherapy for Change

Michelle Y Wakerell - Hypnotherapy for Change Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist - helping you to make the changes that you want to make to live your best life!

Hello there,
My name is Michelle Wakerell and I am a qualified, registered and accredited Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist. Perhaps the greatest battle we face in life is the one within ourselves, however we can win that battle......a life beyond the limitations of fear and self doubt. I have come to understand over the years that we all have amazing potential and untapped resources within us to make the changes we want. All we need is an open mind, willingness to learn and the courage to try new ways of thinking and behaving. I am blessed to be able to both live and work from my beautiful wee “off-grid” cottage on the side of a mountain in the stunning West Highlands of Scotland. Because of this, I am able to offer therapy that is as flexible as I am, and as unique as you are. Your therapy will either be from my cottage, or out amongst the beauty that surrounds us, or a combination of the both. Alternatively you may prefer to work from the comfort of your own home online with me - many clients find this more convenient as they do not have to consider the cost or time involved in travelling - this has allowed me to work with clients from around the world. You really can live a healthier and happier life............

Living with pain - whether it be chronic or temporary - can be exhausting, both physically and emotionally.

But what if you could change the way your mind responds to pain?

Hypnotherapy is a gentle yet powerful approach that works with your subconscious mind to help reduce the intensity of pain, improve relaxation and restore a sense of control.

It can help “turn down the volume” on discomfort and support your body’s natural healing processes.

Some benefits of hypnotherapy for pain can be -
Reduces perception of pain

Eases tension and stress

Stress Awareness Month April - Exercise

Exercise is considered vital for maintaining mental fitness and reducing stress.
Studies have shown that it reduces fatigue, improves alertness and concentration and enhances cognitive function, especially helpful when stress has depleted your energy or ability to concentrate.

When stress affects the brain, with its many nerve connections, the rest of your body feels the impact as well. If your body feels better, then so does your mind.
Exercise and other physical activity produces endorphins - chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers - and can also improve the ability to sleep, which then in turn reduces stress.

Scientists have found that regular participation in exercise has been shown to decrease overall levels of tension, elevate and stabilise mood, improve sleep and improve self-esteem.

Some studies have even shown that exercise can work quickly to elevate depressed mood in many people. Although the effects may only be temporary, they demonstrate that a walk or other simple activity can deliver relief.

In fact just 10 minutes of exercise can make all the difference to how you are feeling!

Change can be easier than you think ❤️

Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS as it's often called is surprisingly common - and can be very debilitating for anyone struggling with it.

Several studies have shown that by reducing stress and anxiety, IBS can be much improved - and various studies have shown that hypnotherapy can help enormously.

A study published in March 2015 in the journal Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics followed 1,000 people with IBS who were treated with 12 sessions of hypnotherapy, and found that 76 % of the people showed improvements.

Gut-directed hypnotherapy reduced bowel-related symptoms and improved overall quality of life.

You really don’t have to struggle ❤️

Relationships can be easier to navigate at times than others.

However, they do need regular input from both parties.

Below are some strategies that can help you keep your relationship running smoothly -
1. Create the love with your differences.
Write a list of the positive differences between you.
This can help you begin to appreciate each other again.

2. No criticisms/No put downs.
When niggles arise between you, or one is criticising the other, say something silly. Your partner will be so taken aback, it will throw them, and may even make them laugh. But, most importantly, it will break any tension.

3. Cuddle Time.
Find time in the day, just for this, with no further expectation.

4. Allow the Dreams.
Encourage your partner to fulfil their dreams and ask them to allow you to achieve yours, too. When you both feel free, you will both be happy.

5. Discuss Rather Than Argue.
Turn irritating comments into humour - see the situation as a cartoon so that you can laugh at it.

6. Learn To Listen.
Make a conscious effort to really listen to what your partner has to say.

7. Love What Is Actually Real.
Don't set up your partner to fail by having expectations of them which are too high.

Hypnotherapy can help to change thinking patterns, behaviours and outcomes.
Relationship hypnosis deals with the relationship you have with your partner - it can help you:

• Deal with negative emotions
• Have improved communications with the people around you
• Recapture those teelings of love and romance
• Build strong relationships towards a brighter future

You can shift the dynamics of your relationship - let the changes begin today ❤️

How are you spending your Easter Monday?

Our connection with nature - how much we notice, think about and appreciate our natural surroundings - is a critical factor in supporting good mental health and preventing distress.

Rather than spending too much time indoors staring at a TV, computer or smartphone screen, the best thing we can do for ourselves is to get out there and rebuild that connection with ourselves - and the great outdoors.

Why not try it either alone or with loved ones this Easter weekend ❤️

Another breathing exercise for you to use and keep in your self care tool kit when feeling stressed or anxious……..

Box Breathing -
Also known as four-square breathing, box breathing is very simple to learn.
In fact, if you've ever noticed yourself inhaling and exhaling to the rhythm of a song, you're already familiar with this type of paced breathing.

1. Exhale to a count of four.

2. Hold your lungs empty for a four-count.

3. Inhale to a count of four.

4. Hold the air in your lungs for a count of four.

Exhale and repeat the pattern.

Be the change ❤️

Is it possible to be completely stress free?

Probably not!

In fact some stress is actually good for us and we need a healthy stress response!

A little stress might make us perform better under pressure, increase our focus, and help us meet an important deadline.

It’s the chronic stress that we need to combat and prevent.
It requires conscious effort to make the time to prioritise rest, sleep, and to generally slow down.

April is Stress Awareness Month and has been held every April, since 1992 to increase public awareness about both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic.
The 2026 campaign, led by The Stress Management Society, highlights "Be the Change”.

According to the Mental health Foundation 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point over the last year, they have felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.

Stress is a significant factor in mental health problems including anxiety and depression.
It is also strongly linked to many physical health problems including heart disease, problems with our immune system, insomnia and digestive problems.

It is important to remember that stress is not an indication that people are weak. It is our natural reaction to spending a sustained period of time dealing with more pressure than we have the ability to deal with.

However, once we understand what is causing us stress, we can learn what steps we can take to enable us to reduce it.

Over this Stress Awareness Month, I shall be sharing some posts with tips, techniques and strategies to help you take back control and “Be the Change” ❤️
