🌻 At Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland, we know that caring for a loved one can be both rewarding and incredibly demanding. That’s why our support is always personalised — not just for the patient, but for their family and carers too. 💛
One of our patients’ partners initially asked for just a few hours of respite each week, to manage errands and appointments. But through our conversations, she shared how much she missed attending an activity she had once loved and how important it was for her own wellbeing.
Together, we made a plan to give her the time to go back to this weekly session. She told us how the support from her friends there gave her strength, helping her cope during her caring role — and how it would continue to support her after her partner’s death.
💬 This is the difference that personalised hospice care makes: recognising the needs of both patients and their carers, and helping them find the support they need to keep going.

Hospice care is more than you think, the theme chosen this year wishes to highlight that care is delivered beyond Hospice walls. It’s about providing comfort, dignity, compassion, and being there for both patients and their loved ones when they need it most, respecting their choice to be at home. Throughout Hospice Care Week, we’ll be sharing stories, facts, and ways you can get involved to help us continue this vital work in our community. 💛

🌻 A heartfelt thank you to our local Cumbria Freemasons and Julia Russell & Karl Haste of Hospice UK 💛
Last week we were delighted to welcome Nick Wilson, The Provincial Grand Master, and Bro. Derrick Bates, Secretary of Dalston Lodge, along with representatives from Hospice UK, to visit and see first-hand how the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) grant is helping us make a real difference in our community.
Through this generous funding, Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland has been able to extend our nurse-led respite provision, offering 520 hours of dedicated care for people living with complex neurological conditions and their families.
This specialist project enables caregivers to take essential breaks, knowing their loved ones are receiving expert and compassionate support in the comfort of their own home. 🌿
We’re proud to be one of just 11 hospices nationally supported through Hospice UK to deliver projects that provide vital care for patients with progressive neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and Motor Neurone Disease.
In addition, the MCF’s support has also funded professional development opportunities for our clinical team — helping us continue to grow, learn, and extend our impact for patients and families across North and East Cumbria.

🌍✨ Sustainable Fashion Week ✨🌍

At Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland, we’re proud that our shops play a big part in promoting sustainable fashion. Every item purchased extends the life of clothes, reduces waste, and supports dedicated care for local patients and families. 💛🌻

Our latest looks were styled straight from our Carlisle Shop and modelled beautifully by Alice Hetherington, a student from Carlisle College . Alice kindly gifted her time to support us after we reached out to Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors — she has links to Cartmel shepherd whose staff kindly volunteered their time last week to help get our Carlisle shop ready for Autumn winter. They were amazing and all worked so hard. We cannot thank them enough. 💕
