Easy ways to combat holiday foot fatigue over the festive period🎄

Wear “healthy” shoes – OK, so you’ll never give up your sparkly high heels when it’s time for that special soiree. But for other holiday activities such as shopping, travelling or cooking, ditch the high heels. When you know you’ll be on your feet all day, wear comfortable shoes with good arch support and a padded sole 👣

Easy ways to combat holiday foot fatigue over the festive period 🎄

Foot massages – Foot rubs not only feel good, they’re a great way to release tension, boost circulation and refresh skin after a long day on your feet. Take a few minutes to massage your feet at the end of a day of shopping and celebrating or even better, get your loved one to do it for you, after all it is Christmas. Use lotion and take care of moisturising at the same time 👣

Put your feet up – Feet and ankles can swell from sitting too long in one position. Taking long flights, trains and car journeys to visit loved ones or even if you’ve been on your feet all day shopping, elevate your legs to reduce swelling. Lay or sit and lift your legs above your heart 👣

Easy ways to combat holiday foot fatigue over the festive period 🎄

Exercise your feet – Stretching is a good way to avoid muscle cramps. Fend off toe cramps by raising, pointing and curling your toes for five seconds. Repeat 10 times. Rotating your ankles can also help relax feet. Cup your heel and turn each ankle slowly five times to loosen ankle joints 👣

People with diabetes have a greater risk of serious foot problems. They should check their feet daily for cuts, blisters, bruises or signs of injury. They should also wear well-fitted shoes that protect their feet from injury.

The main risk factors for the feet of people with diabetes are:
Impaired circulation can delay healing.
Nerve damage can cause people to lose sensation in their feet. This means a person may not know that their shoe is rubbing or that they have cut their foot 👣

Make sure you match your footwear to the right activity.

This seems obvious but when you are in rush it’s easy to just take off without the best foot support. The footwear market offers many variations on activity driven designs that are fairly affordable as well. Different terrains and actions put different stresses on the foot.

Well designed shoes will make it easy for you to control your motion and speed, especially when exercising. The key factor is cushioning and arch support so you feel stable and comfortable and your feet won’t tire as easily 👣

Do you suffer with Muscle spasm? 👣

This is a sudden, powerful tightening of the mid-foot or toe muscles. Your foot may hurt and seize up, even while you're asleep. It’s likely to be a muscle spasm.

Muscle spasm can result from a muscle injury, but it may also occur in response to a nerve problem, or even emotional stress.

Cramps can have various triggers, but overuse, dehydration, and mineral deficiencies (particularly, potassium, calcium, and magnesium) are some of the most common culprits, however, there is often no clear cause 👣
