Thornhill House Care Home in Darfield is looking forward to marking VE Day with a special celebration next week 🇬🇧

As we prepare for the occasion, we’re delighted to invite family, friends, and members of the Darfield community to join us for an afternoon of remembrance, connection, and community spirit.

Following our recognition as a Veteran Friendly Care Home, we are especially proud to continue honouring and welcoming veterans — not just on VE Day, but every day.

Massive shoutout to Tyler, Sheridan and Libby who recently took on an amazing skydive 🪂 to raise money for Barnsley Hospice 💙

Not only did they take the leap (literally!), they smashed their fundraising target and raised an incredible £1,333.00 👏

This week, they proudly handed over the donation to support the fantastic work the hospice does for our community. Such a special, much-loved service that means so much to so many 💫

We’re so proud of you all – what an achievement! 🙌

A brilliant afternoon for John and Malcolm ❤️⚽

Residents at Thornhill House Care Home in Darfield enjoyed a fantastic day out at Barnsley FC, where John and Malcolm headed along for a special afternoon.

They were treated to a lovely two-course lunch, surrounded by fellow fans, all while overlooking the pitch — the perfect setting for a good catch-up about all things Barnsley!

The highlight of the day? A visit from the players themselves, which truly made their day and gave them plenty to talk about long after the final whistle.

There was no shortage of football chat, memories shared and smiles all round — a great reminder of how important it is to keep doing the things you’ve always loved.

Days like this are what it’s all about 💙

There’s something truly special about seeing our garden come to life — especially when our wonderful residents are at the heart of it all. From planting to nurturing, this shared activity brings so much joy, connection, and purpose.

Spending time outdoors not only lifts spirits but also supports healthy wellbeing — with fresh air, natural vitamin D, and even a boost to appetite. It’s a beautiful way to bring our home and community closer together ❤️

🪂 What a Leap of Faith! 🪂
A huge shoutout to our incredible trio — Tyler, Sheridan and Libby — who bravely took to the skies and parachuted back down to earth, all in support of Barnsley Hospice!

Together, they’ve already raised over £1100+ for this vital local service, making a real difference to so many in our community.

We think it’s safe to say the special good luck video from our residents gave them that extra boost of courage on the way down! 💙

Bringing our veteran community together 🇬🇧

At Thornhill House Care Home in Darfield, we’re proud to be hosting a Strong Life Veterans Reunion — a chance for veterans and their families to come together, share stories and enjoy good company.

📅 13th May 2026
📍 Thornhill House, Church Street, Darfield
⏰ 2pm – 4pm

This free event will include a live entertainer and, of course, a proper catch-up over pie and peas — because sometimes the simplest things bring people together best.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the Veteran Friendly Framework, events like this are incredibly important. They create space for connection, reflection and camaraderie — something that remains vital long after service.

We’d love to welcome veterans from across the community, along with their families, for an afternoon that’s sure to be full of conversation, laughter and shared experiences.

Celebrating Maggie at Thornhill House 💙

A very special milestone at Thornhill House Care Home in Darfield, part of Strong Life Care, as we celebrate Maggie, our wonderful Deputy Manager, reaching an incredible 14 years with us.

In a world where things can change quickly, Maggie has been a constant — caring, compassionate and always focused on doing the very best for our residents and her team.

Her approach is simple but so important.
Kindness.
Consistency.
And always doing things the right way.

Over the years, Maggie has helped shape the warm, supportive environment that Thornhill House is known for — a place where residents are truly known and valued, and where staff feel part of something special.

It’s not just about the number of years (although 14 is amazing!) — it’s about the difference she makes every single day. The reassurance she brings, the standards she upholds and the care she shows.

Maggie, thank you for everything you do. You are a huge part of what makes Thornhill House and Strong Life Care so special 💙

Tyler, Sherridon and Libby, our brave colleagues, are taking on a SKYDIVE 🪂 in support of Barnsley Hospice – a charity that provides incredible specialist palliative and end of life care to people in Barnsley living with life-limiting illnesses, as well as vital support for their loved ones.

☀️🐎 A day at the races… Thornhill House style! 🐎☀️

Raymond and Pat love the horses, so with the Grand National just around the corner, there was only one thing for it… a trip out for a little flutter!

Making the most of the beautiful sunshine, they headed out into the Darfield community to enjoy the occasion properly — just the way they always have 😊

At Thornhill House, it’s so important that residents continue to enjoy the things they’ve always loved, and days like this are a perfect example of that. Getting out, being part of the community and sharing those familiar moments really does make all the difference 💙
