Functional neurological disorder
A very misunderstood and underresearched condition.
Many believe that this diagnosis means 'theres nothing wrong with me. They're saying it's all in my head'
Simply NOT TRUE
The truth is that you have developed neurological symptoms which can be as disabling, if not more disabling, that diagnosable neurological conditions such as MS, stroke.
The only issue is that medically you're body presents normal and healthy on scans, blood tests etc. This is very encouraging but also very confusing.
The issue is with your brain networks. The truth is that this can be psychological in nature, often related to childhood trauma or a traumatic event which you're struggling to cope with. One theory suggests that your brain converts psychological distress into neurological symptoms as a way of coping.

Either way, you're symptoms ARE REAL, it is not ALL IN YOUR HEAD, and you need to believe that your symptoms will improve. 'Believe' being the key word. Your belief systems are extremely important and this is the vital step you need to take before seeing results.
How you think and feel is the key to your recovery.

If you have been given this diagnosis and feel confused and need my help, send me a message.

Exercise has many benefits for everyone but it is an integral part of management of your Parkinson's disease symptoms.
As Parkinson's disease progresses, your movements may become slower and smaller and the joints of the body may become stiff and rigid. You may find that you have more falls, struggle with things like rolling over to get out of bed and your posture may become more stooped.
Although exercise cannot prevent the progression of your Parkinson's disease it can help you maintain range of movement of stiff joints, keep you stronger for longer and help to reduce your risk of falls. Exercise can also help to improve your mood and keep your mind active and healthy.
If you or someone you know has Parkinson's disease who would benefit from a tailored exercise and symptom management program to be done in the comfort of your own home, contact NeuroPlus physiotherapy for advice, support and one to one physiotherapy.

Attention all stroke survivors.
Did you know that the earlier you start your rehabilitation after stroke the better?
The central nervous system is an amazing thing and after a stroke, the brain can rewire and re-organise itself to make new connections to account for the connections that were lost due to your stroke. These new connections are influenced by your movements patterns.
Physiotherapy will help your brain to rewire itself properly and learn the correct movements patterns and stop bad habits and patterns from forming. The earlier you do this, the better. Without the correct therapy and guidance, wrong movement patterns may be learnt and it is very difficult to then try to change this.
