I provide ther**eutic counselling to individuals and clinical supervision for other counsellors. Now an established practice, New Balance Counselling started in 2013 and my aim was to be able to offer a non-clinical, ther**eutic counselling service to anyone looking for therapy without any lengthy waiting times or limit to the amount of sessions. There are so many different reasons why you may be considering counselling. Whether it's something specific that you've experienced like a traumatic incident or a huge life change, or non-specific thing that you just can't put your finger on but is affecting how you currently feel. With a warm, respectful and down-to-earth approach, my hope is that you will feel very much at ease talking to me about anything, knowing it will be in complete confidence. Whether it's to heal from trauma, accept a situation, improve a relationship, learn to nurture yourself or to just feel generally happier in life, I can help you work through it. Counselling can be challenging at times, but more importantly it can be empowering, enlightening and life-changing. It may be the best decision you ever make.

I've just read something that said "Mystery is the source of understanding". I thought to myself, this feels very much like the process of counselling for many people. Together we explore the great depths of the unknown. It may be scary, exciting or even amusing at times. It may provide answers. It may provoke questions.
Whether it's to help you make sense of yourself, your feelings, your situation, the world, or other people, counselling really can make a difference to your life.

It feels really important for women to consider where they are in their menstrual cycle as they navigate life.

However, this knowledge can be really useful to bring to, and inform your therapy.

I always encourage complete openness, you can talk to me about literally anything! And it can really help when I'm aware of which phase you're in. You may be feeling more sensitive to your emotions than usual one week, or even feel more up for a challenge, depending on where you're at.

I definitely encourage 'menstrual cycle friendly therapy' in my practice! Always striving to ensure the best outcome for you.

In response to being asked many times what the lovely smell is in my therapy room, I am currently using Californian White Sage smokleless incense bricks from Aromafume.

Winter was a time for hibernation and conservation of energy. Springtime has increasingly longer days which help to promote a feeling of hope for things to come.

I haven't posted for quite some time, for no particular reason other than it just hasn't been on the top of my 'to do' list. I don't particularly like to use social media as a marketing tool and therefore don't feel the need to update it regularly just for the sake of it. If something meaningful comes along that I'd like to share then I will.

I read something similar recently that has inspired me to do my own 'open letter', so here we go!

To my current clients, I am so glad you chose me to let into your life, to trust me with the really difficult, deep and painful 'stuff', the 'stuff' you feel ashamed of and the really positive 'stuff' too. Thank you for showing me your vulnerability, for trusting me with the most incredibly fragile and anxious parts of your mind, for allowing me in. Even though I try, I don't think my words will ever be able to express how humbled I feel at times to walk beside you and be invited into your often very private world. I have so many hopes for our work together, wishing you the best in every situation, but most of all I hope that I can hold you where you are and offer you somewhere safe to just be you. There may be some bumps in the road, there may be times where you don't want to face our sessions because of the challenges it can bring, there may be times where you are angry, frustrated, or even dislike me for exploring certain emotions and situations with you, but I believe you can get through all of this, you can make it through, to learn how to cope with obstacles in your life without needing me anymore, and to realise your worth. I trust you.

To my past clients, I hope that you're thriving, and I wonder if you still think of the hard work you put into your sessions. Some of you stayed with me for a long time, working through some really deep and difficult situations, emotions, thoughts and feelings. Some of you brought our sessions to a close and allowed our final session to be a healthy ending, which for some of you was a first. Others left after only a few sessions and without letting me know. I respect that this is what you needed to do and many of you stay in my thoughts, still with compassion and a curiosity of how life is going for you.

To my future clients, you will benefit from all the work previous clients have done. With every session I do, I learn and grow and try to be a better therapist for you. I'm not sure yet why it is that you might have found me and why you might or might not make contact, but I want you to know I'm here and I'm ready. I don't know what difficulties we will face if you do get in touch, but once you start we will face them together.

To all of you, thank you for ever considering me.

A very warm welcome to you

Tucked away in a central, yet quiet part of Darlington town centre, I provide private counselling for individuals. I hope this page will give you a little insight into what you could gain in coming for counselling with me.

Why counselling?

There are so many reasons why you may be considering counselling. It may be that you are feeling low, worried or upset about something and just can't shake the feeling. It may be that you feel 'stuck' at a point in life, and are unsure which way to turn next. Perhaps you are sick and tired of trying to please everyone else and need something time to de-stress. Or maybe something just doesn't feel right but you can't quite put your finger on what it is.

We all have times in our lives when things don't go the way we expect, plan or want them to. It could be because of something that happened in the past, is happening now or that you think might happen in the future. Whatever it is, counselling can help you cope with whatever you are going through.
