MenB needs close and prolonged contact to spread, such as living in the same household
or intimate contact such as kissing or sharing drinks and vapes.

It is not as contagious as other infections like measles or COVID-19.

Meningitis B Vaccination – Information for our patients
You may have read recent media coverage concerning a very serious outbreak of meningitis in Kent and we understand your concern. There is no evidence that this outbreak has spread further in the UK.
But it is still important to be aware of the symptoms of meningitis and sepsis. They can appear suddenly and be easily mistaken for flu, a heavy cold or even a hangover, so it is vital that anyone who is concerned seeks urgent medical help immediately.
Currently the Men B vaccine is only routinely offered to babies at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 1 year. This is because infants are in the highest risk category.
The school age vaccine given to teenagers (MenACWY) protects against four different strains, but it does not include the Men B strain. Most adults and teenagers in the UK have not been vaccinated against meningitis B.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer the Men B vaccine at the practice to patients outside of the routine childhood schedule. If you or your family wish to receive it, you will need to contact a private provider (such as a private travel clinic or a pharmacy. Middleton Pharmacy are currently taking bookings for when their stock arrives).
