It’s amazing how the body adapts. A few months ago tbe thought of running 75 minutes non stop would have been so daunting. Goes to show, following a structured progressive plan will usually see you progress. This run actually felt really good, so much so, I managed to increase pace (just a little) for the last 20 or so minutes. If you have a goal, don’t be put off if it seems far away, make a start!

Went a little off piste today and added a short trail section to my 90 minute long “run”.
Was lovely to be out in the country, but some of the inclines made it harder than expected 🥲. Even found myself sprinting around the edge of a golf course, scared I was going to catch a golf ball to the head 😂.

Anyways, I am still working towards my target of raising £400 for the British Heart Foundation.

I might even do a bake sale at work 🧐.

PERIODISATION 101.

I’ve just started yet another course! This one is the Level 4 Award in Strength and Conditioning. They say the best way to learn something is to teach someone else, with that in mind I am going to be making some posts about the content I am learning as I go.

Ever find yourself wondering how the pros keep hitting their goals, seemingly without missing a beat? Well, I’ve got the lowdown on a game-changer called periodisation. It’s not just some fancy jargon; it’s the blueprint for real results.

Let’s break it down into the main acts of this strategy:

Macrocycle: Think of this as your endgame, the big goal you’re chasing over the year. Whether it’s crushing a marathon, mastering a pull-up, or simply feeling your best, this is where your eyes are set.

Mesocycle: These are your milestones along the way, lasting a few weeks to months. Each one targets specific aspects of your fitness, building you up piece by piece.

Microcycle: The weekly or daily breakdowns where the real work happens. It’s where you plan the specifics of each workout, ensuring you’re on track for the bigger picture.

And here’s how we navigate the journey:

General Preparation Phase: Building your base, where you focus on overall fitness and conditioning. It’s about laying the foundation for more intense work ahead.

Specific Preparation Phase: Tailoring your training to the specifics of your goal. It’s where the training becomes more focused, fine-tuning your body for peak performance.

Competition Phase: The peak, where you’re ready to showcase your hard work. It’s about fine-tuning and being at your best, whether for a competition or personal achievement.

Transition Phase: Time to rest and recover, reflecting on your achievements and setting sights on new goals. It’s as crucial as the training itself.

Periodisation is about smart, structured training, ensuring you’re not just working hard but also working smart. It’s about making consistent, measurable progress towards your fitness goals.

So, if you’ve been feeling stuck or unsure how to level up your training, periodisation might just be the missing piece. Let me know if you’ve got any questions!

Took a little longer than I anticipated but I made it from home to Saltburn beach.

I decided to ride 46km to mark my 46th birthday. Ended up doing 49.85km 😀.

Feeling it now as I get the train home and I can’t help but think of fitness journey analogies about the trip.

Lots of ups and downs, lost my way, wasn’t sure if I was following the right path but ultimately I stuck to it and got there in the end. 😅

Is metabolic adaptation stopping your weight loss?

Swipe right to see all slides.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Metabolic adaptation is a concept that has been around for quite some time.

You probably don't have a damaged metabolism though.

"MAYBE YOU DON'T WANT IT ENOUGH"

Imagine paying a coach to help you improve your health or maybe lose some weight and then when you struggle being told you just didn't want it enough.

At that point you can feel free to very sarcastically say "OMG, you're so right, I guess that's why I've given you so much money?!?!"

Some people are good at telling you what to do or what they think you should do, or worse what they did (these are instructors not coaches).

Others are good at coaching you to get the result you do want, like Fortified Coaching (hint, I'm one 😉 of them).

If you haven't heard we're kinda like The Avengers, except none of us are green and angry and we don't fight aliens.

In fact, we're not that much like The Avengers, we just like watching the movies and tv stuff.

I have a couple of spaces available for Personal Training or online coaching right now, if you need help and want to be coached (not instructed) just let me know. My DMs are always open.

What could you achieve if you start now?

Most of us ‘know’ the basics when it comes to being more healthy. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always lead to action and positive outcomes. Why not? I hear you ask. Well, we are dealing with a lot of factors.

We may think that we make logical decisions all of the time but in reality we are very often led by emotions. This means that a lot of us don’t always choose the best options for our health. Our environments can also be very influential in what we decide to do and this may not always match what we think we want. There are high calorie foods available at the touch of a button on your phone! We also live in a world where information comes incredibly quickly. It can also seem to change daily with one expert saying one thing and another saying exactly the opposite!

I can help you navigate these issues through coaching and support. With years of experience and an array of quality qualifications (no groupon certificates here). Perhaps most importantly I have faced my own struggles when it comes to good health and nutrition so I understand first hand how frustrating it can be.

Contact me today via the message function to arrange a consultation or even just ask some questions and I will be glad to help wherever I can!
