Day 5 of grounding - Heightening your most sensitive senses.

For me, this has to be my favourite as it is the simplest thing to do to elevate your senses and bring you back into the here and now. Your smell and your taste are super sensitive and pretty hard to ignore when awoken.

Try sucking on a mint, or other strong tasting food. Notice the taste, notice what it feels like in your mouth, pay attention to what you can also smell. Really focus on the feeling and what your taste buds are experiencing.

Aromatherapy smelling salts can also be really helpful when feeling anxious or overwhelmed. A hit of intense, invigorating aromatherapy salts can distract your other heightened senses and help to ground you.

Day 4 of grounding - Body scanning

If you feel stressed or drained after a long day, body scanning is great for relaxing your muscles and your mind.

Spend time on yourself and this exercise, it really can benefit you.

There are some great videos on YouTube that talk you through body scan meditations as well. Here is my favourite one:

Something so simple as counting or spotting colours can be a great way to allow your brain to escape from the anxious thoughts.

Day 2 of grounding techniques.

Breathing, breathing, breathing. Sounds simple doesn't it! But breathing correctly when feeling anxious can make a HUGE difference.

Imagine your tummy is a balloon, and you're trying to inflate it as big as you can.
Take a long breath in for 4, hold for 4, and release slowly for 4.
Notice the movement in your tummy.
Notice your lungs filling full of air.
Notice the feeling when you exhale. Try sighing at the same time as an extra release.
Continue this for a few moments and pay attention to the calmness flowing through your body.

Try it for yourself and let me know how you got on.

The lead up to the festive season can cause alot of stress and anxiety. Therefore, this week i am going to share some of the easiest ways to ground yourself and bring you back to the moment.

If you feel your thoughts or emotions are spiralling or you are losing control, your brain becomes your enemy and you begin to catastrophise.

The best way to bring you back into the moment is by using your senses as your saviour.

This 5-4-3-2-1 technique can be really useful.
