Sad to post the death of Gordon Stacey a former plater and supervisor of Newton Aycliffe ( Jan 1935 - June 2025)

I first met Gordon in 1976 working on site for Whessoe on the Olefins 6 project building the ethylene crackers..........Erv Taube, Dave Roote and Peter Banger Angus were also on the job along with an elite welding squad headed up by Barry Gent.......great job whilst it lasted I have to say.

Gordon I believe went on to work at Dock Point, Press production Systems, Wallsend and Press in South Africa, Port Elizabeth, Mossel Bay gas production topsides etc.
he also had a stint with Mech Tool Albert Hill

Gordons funeral is 11.30am 14th July.

Sad to report death of Brian Denham who was Whessoe’s works engineer.
Brian was responsible for all the maintenance infrastructure and installation of new machinery.
His final task was to oversee works closure and subsequent sale of machinery and demolition of buildings.
Rip Brian who passed a couple of days ago at Carlisle aged 90

Sad to post the death of our active participant and friend to many Neil Cooper yesterday

We last saw him at the 2024 reunion where he mentioned cancer but was very positive about treatment.

I knew Neil from me being a pre teenager as he delivered papers for my dad and was a very likeable gent
RIP Neil
Gone too soon

A2 Nuclear Fuel Transport Flask, 10 were built at Whessoe Darlo in the mid to late 1980s.
They are still in use moving spent fuel rods from Heysham, Hartlepool and Torness powerstations to Sellafield. This clip was on BBC2 tonight at the end of Great British Railway Journeys.
Each flask weighed 50 tonnes.
A large part of one flask fell off a trailer in no 1 shop and made a bit of a mess of the floor!
