You are warmly invited to join me at Durham Yoga Group
Saturday 16th May 10-12pm

The next session with Durham Yoga Group at Belmont Parish Hall is at 10am to Midday on Saturday 16th May with Tara Sellars.

Tara is an experienced teacher devoted to movement and wellbeing, with roots in yoga and a deep focus on somatics. Trained with the British Wheel of Yoga and a certified Gentle Somatic YogaĀ® practitioner, she shares her work through regular classes, workshops and retreats in the UK & Italy. Her approach blends yoga, somatic movement, breath, and functional movement to support longevity, vitality, and ease in every day life.

For the first half of this workshop, you will be guided through a somatic movement journey, supported by the ground, allowing you to gently let go of the outside world and arrive fully into your body.
In the second half, we will transition towards standing—exploring uprightness as a foundation for everyday life. Through exploratory movement, we will cultivate stability, resilience, and longevity, inviting greater awareness, curiosity, and connection within the body.
A yoga brick/block is required for the session.

love british summer time and late evening daylight, here are a few reasons why:

ā˜€ļø Supports your circadian rhythm – Evening daylight helps regulate your internal clock, which can improve sleep quality and energy levels.

🧠 Boosts mood and reduces stress – Natural light and gentle movement increase serotonin and reduce cortisol, supporting emotional balance.

šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļø Aids digestion – Light movement after eating has been shown to support blood sugar regulation and digestion.

šŸ’› Enhances mind-body awareness – Walking mindfully helps you drop out of the thinking mind and into sensation — a core somatic practice.

🌿 Improves overall health – Regular walking is linked to reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and improved metabolic health.

Let this season be a reminder: your wellbeing doesn’t always require more effort — sometimes it simply asks for a little more presence, a little more light, and a willingness to step outside.

Tonight, if you can, take a walk. Feel your feet. Notice your breath. Let the day land gently.

With love & light

Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is slow down.
There’s something about being in nature — the sound of water, the stillness, the space — that gently calms the nervous system and brings us back to ourselves. It reminds us that we don’t always need to push forward at full speed. Sometimes, we need to pause… so we can move forward with more clarity and intention.

I’ve taken this past week off to do exactly that. While it may have looked quiet from the outside, there’s been so much happening behind the scenes — planning, creating, refining. Workshops, classes, lesson plans, and something I’m really excited about… an upcoming retreat in Italy šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹ 2027

There are a few places available in my regular classes, so if you’ve been feeling the pull to step away, reset, and reconnect, send me a DM

Classes restart next week, and I’m really looking forward to being back on the mat with you all šŸ’š

Our Very First Book Club Meeting šŸ“š

Here is a glimpse of our very first gathering .
We explored The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins (thank you, Mel Robbins , for such a powerful and thought-provoking read šŸ™).
As a Somatic Yoga teacher, I chose this book because it beautifully aligns with key yoga philosophies, in particular Svadhyaya (self-study) from Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga, the Yamas and Niyamas.
Svadhyaya invites us to observe our thoughts, habits, and patterns with curiosity and honesty, rather than judgment. Alongside this, the principle of Aparigraha (non-grasping) reminds us to let go of attachments, expectations, and the need to control outcomes or how things ā€œshouldā€ be.
These teachings aren’t rigid rules, but gentle, practical tools to calm the mind, create inner peace, and reconnect with our authentic Self.
This is important for me, as not only do I want my clients to move and feel better physically, but I also want them to explore the potential of mental and emotional freedom. To feel empowered, to set healthy boundaries, to live as their true authentic selves, without the need to control others or outcomes.
It was so special to sit together and hear everyone share their personal interpretations and journeys with The Let Them Theory and how they’re applying it in their lives.
Thank you to everyone who came along, and again thank you, Mel. I highly recommend this book to anyone on a journey of mind-set growth and self-discovery.

Pause for a moment…check in with yourself, not your to-do list, not your messages- You

How do you feel in your body right now?
Is there tension or ease?
Is your heart rate slow or fast?
Is your breath shallow or deep?
What are your energy levels like?

This simple act of awareness is a fundamental form of self-care.

Yet we live in a world that rarely encourages stillness, it celebrates constant doing, producing, achieving. And for many of us, stillness can feel unfamiliar… even uncomfortable. The stories we carry and the ways we’ve learned to cope can pull us back into busyness, into what feels ā€œnormal.ā€

But coming back to your body is how you come back to yourself.

It’s how you begin to feel safe.
It’s how you regulate your system.
It’s how you reconnect with what you truly need.

I share these practices in class and on zoom to support you in returning home to your body, your breath, your presence.

So this is your gentle reminder to please check in on yourself šŸ™Œ

In health & vitality always,
Tara

Happy International Women’s Day šŸ“£
A heartfelt thank you to the amazing women who show up to my classes week after week. Even when life is busy and you’re being pulled in many directions, you still make the time to step onto your mat and take care of yourselves.
That time truly matters. When you leave the studio and return to the outside world, you do so feeling calmer, stronger and more grounded.
I’m so proud of you all. Let’s keep supporting each other, lifting each other up, and growing together.
There are a few spaces available in my classes, so if you feel the pull to take some time for yourself and join a supportive, welcoming space, please reach out, know that you will be warmly welcomed.

Spring is the season of unfurling, softening from what felt tight and gently releasing the holding patterns that kept us safe, but maybe now are keeping us stuck.
In class we talked about that sense of enduring rather than expanding, feeling heavy, constricted, as though we have been holding our breath, feel familiar?

Seasonal shifts affect the nervous system as much as they do our environment and you may sense a subtle shift with the return of light āœØļø This is a time to re-emerge, to reconnect to your body, to create space where there was contraction, to breathe, to re-orient.

As a Somatic Yoga teacher, I guide you back to yourself, not through force but through sustainable intelligent movement.

There are a few opportunities to join Pilates & Beyonda class this spring term, if you're feeling a quiet nudge that its time to grow and unfurl please reach out 🌱

It’s one of the biggest misconceptions that you need to be flexible to do yoga. You don’t!!

If you’ve tried a class before and didn’t enjoy it, try a different teacher or a different style. As teachers, we all bring something unique, our voice, our own expertise, experience and energy. The right class can feel completely different.

Yoga gives you the opportunity to truly feel your body again and become comfortable with stillness, not just physical stillness, but the quietening of the monkey mind. You learn to breathe consciously, to slow down, and to gently recalibrate your nervous system.

It’s a space where you get to meet yourself exactly where you are, not where you think you should be, or where society tells you you ought to be.

What I'm trying to say is you don’t need to be ā€œgoodā€ at yoga. You simply need to show up.

Whether you’re a complete beginner, returning after time away, or looking to deepen your practice, you will be warmly welcomed into a supportive space.

My spring term begins on 2nd March. If you’re curious, unsure, or wondering whether it’s right for you, please get in touch.

This is a space that holds you.
However you arrive, tired, grieving, anxious, new, scattered after a challenging day at work, know you are warmly welcome.

I've been quieter here as I've been processing the sudden loss of my mother-in-law and supporting my immediate family. I'm choosing to show up honestly and that's what I offer in my classes.

No performance, No expectations, no dress code.
A space to meet yourself, know yourself better, and to feel and move better in your life.
