DCD success 💪
When we set up the functional training corner last year, one of our aims was to help our youngsters to transition between therapy and training. ( not replacing but complementing) .
The plan was to develop competence and confidence in our teens and young adults to use functional training equipment, so when they are old enough to step through the doors of any gym they will not struggle with anxiety or worry that they don’t know what to do. Instead, they will feel empowered to access any training facility knowing that there is always something they can use safely. Isn’t it a great starting point?
Once they are in a gym and start to move purposefully, then there are endless possibilities to get stronger and feel better about themselves!
We were over the moon to hear the parental feedback from this young man. After working through the protocols of using the different cardio equipment now he is confident to use them in his gym for up to 15 minutes without any parental prompt.
This is a brilliant example that dyspraxia or developmental coordination disorder affects movement and coordination, but learning and progress is possible with practice ( lots of practice.) 💪👏🙌
