The maternity research team at the University Hospital of North Tees would like to thank everyone who has got in touch to show an interest in being part of the Generation study.
The national study involves screening babies for more than 200 rare genetic conditions, investigating the early diagnosis and treatment of conditions that may develop in early childhood.
As part of the study, a babyβs genome is sequenced shortly after birth, using a small blood sample taken from the umbilical cord with parental consent.
Kirsty Farrington, research midwife, said: "We've been really pleased with the number of people who have reached out to us to show their interest.
"We want to remind people that to be involved in the study we need women and parents to get in touch with us before your baby is born.
"All you need to do is visit the website to show your interest."
