Human body composition is the term used to describe the proportion of different types of substances that make up the human body.
Some of the most important principles that govern human body composition are:
💦 Water is the most abundant substance in the human body, accounting for about 60-70% of the total body weight. Water plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis, transporting nutrients and wastes, regulating temperature, and facilitating chemical reactions.
🥑 Fat is the main form of energy storage in the human body. Fat provides insulation, cushioning, and protection for the organs; it also serves as a source of essential fatty acids and fat- soluble vitamins.
🍗 Protein is the main structural component of the human body. Protein is composed of amino acids, which are the building blocks of various tissues, such as muscles, bones, skin, hair, nails, enzymes, hormones, and antibodies. Protein is essential for growth, repair, and maintenance of the body; it also serves as a source of energy when carbohydrates and fats are insufficient.
🍞 Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for the human body. Carbohydrates are composed of sugars and starches, which are broken down into glucose and stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles. Carbs provide fuel for brain, nervous system, and red blood cells; they also help regulate blood glucose levels and spare protein from being used for energy.
☢️ Minerals are inorganic elements that are essential for various physiological functions in the human body. Minerals help form and maintain bones and teeth; they also participate in fluid balance, nerve transmission, muscle contraction, enzyme activity, blood clotting, oxygen transport, and hormone regulation.
♀️♂️ Nucleic Acids are organic molecules that store and transmit generic information in the human body. DNA and RNA
These are some of the most important principles that govern human body composition. However, there are other factors that affect human body composition, such as age, s*x, genetics, physical activity level, diet quality and quantity, etc.
