Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust We provide NHS services in South London, Kent and South West England.

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is one of the most successful and innovative healthcare providers in the country. Since becoming a Foundation Trust in 2006 the organisation has continued to thrive and now provides integrated mental health, learning disabilities and community services for much of South East London and a range of more specialist services in Kent and other counties. Oxleas has worked hard to develop an organisational culture based on excellent care, valuing people and placing the needs of service users at the very centre of all decision making – it is this approach that has won the Trust numerous accolades over the years. Oxleas is a great place to work - we regularly achieve highest ranking results in the National Staff Survey. We provide care for people of all ages and work closely with a variety of partners to ensure that our services are well-integrated and wide-ranging. We have a workforce of over 7000 people including many highly skilled health and social care professionals. We have over 125 sites in a variety of locations across the London Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Kent and the South West of England. We have been the main provider of specialist mental health care for more than ten years and have developed a comprehensive portfolio of services in community and hospital settings. We also provide specialist forensic mental health care across South East London, Kent and the South West.

In the heart of Greenwich, local barber Jesse Ashiegbu is using his Headlinerz Barbershop UK as a hub for change – not just in hairstyles, but in men’s health.

Jesse is on a mission to support the wellbeing of men in his community, particularly those of African and Caribbean heritage, who are at higher risk of conditions such as high blood pressure and prostate cancer.

By offering free blood pressure checks in the barbershop and starting gentle, informed conversations about physical and mental health, he’s bringing vital healthcare awareness into a trusted, everyday setting.

Once a month, Jesse hosts Thursday Night Jollof – evening sessions where men gather over food to talk openly about everything from mental health to fatherhood. These relaxed, welcoming events create a safe space for honest conversations, with no subject off-limits.

We recently visited Jesse to see his work in action – watch our short film and be inspired by the difference one barber is making in his community.

As we mark Men’s Mental Health Week, Jesse’s work is a powerful reminder of the importance of open, accessible conversations around men’s wellbeing – and the role that trusted community spaces can play in supporting them.

Today is Mental Health Nurses' Day, when we'll be taking extra time to celebrate the kind and caring people who are our mental health nurses.

Meet Leah (centre) - a mental health nurse for 20 years. Coming from a family of nurses, her grandfather was a charge nurse at the Old Bexley Hospital. Leah used to love to hear his stories of how he helped people. He used to say: 'When someone thanks you, it means you've really made a difference.'

Leah says the most rewarding part of her job is meeting and working with some truly amazing people.

If you want to be part of an awesome team, here we are!
