Congratulations to Dr Guy Sisson, who was recently awarded a Gold STAR Award.

Guy was nominate by Amber Tebbutt, who said:

"I would like to nominate Dr Sisson for a STAR award for his outstanding care and compassion of a young person on Willow Ward. Guy was not allocated to cover the clinical shifts that week, but every day Guy attended the ward before 9AM to see and review the patient. Not having continuity of care was detrimental to this patient and their compliance to treatment at the time and I have no doubt that having Guy visit each morning had a massive positive impact on this patient’s journey and care they received.

Having the opportunity to see how Guy communicated with the young person really highlighted his passion and commitment for what he does and it was so lovely to see. Striving to achieve the best possible outcome for the patient was evident and it often made me think ‘everyone needs a Guy’, someone who projects compassionate care whilst reassuring you that he is doing everything possible. Guy always ensured the young person’s well-being and understanding of each decision was understood and each daily plan was explained to them.

Guys commination was outstanding and optimised the trusts values of working together, speaking not only the nursing staff, but also our medical team and adult medics. On every occasion Guy came to the ward there was always a new member of staff that not yet met him, who would comment on how fantastic, personable and friendly he is. Guy made no question feel like a silly question and would always stay to answer the nurse’s questions or concerns, this therefore gave the nurses the confidence to manage this patient and their care and in doing so ensured high quality care was provided.

The care of young people within the healthcare setting and their transitional care is something that we are continuously working on and looking at areas to improve. I am so fortunate that I had the opportunity to see how working together effectively with our adult colleagues like Guy can improve overall care for our young people, which incorporated all aspects and subsequently turned standard care into outstanding care."

Well done, Guy!

Congratulations to Laurel Ward for achieving Silver Accreditation!

The ward accreditation programme is a nationally recognised assessment that evaluates wards based on the CQC’s five key questions: Safe, Caring, Effective, Responsive, and Well-Led. Each ward is assessed against CQC standards and awarded White, Bronze, Silver, or Gold accreditation.

This achievement reflects the team’s dedication, perseverance, and steadfast commitment to providing outstanding care.

Laurel scored a solid 83% overall and earned a Gold rating in the Safe, Caring and Responsive domain—congratulations on this excellent performance!

Well done to Luis, Matron Kudzai & Swapna, and the entire Laurel Team!

✨Your appointments, your way. Have you heard about Patient Initiated Follow Ups (PIFU)? ✨

Patient Initiated Follow up (PIFU) is a new way of arranging your hospital outpatient follow up appointments.

Through your PIFU plan, you can arrange follow-up appointments with your hospital care team if you experience worsening of your symptoms related to the condition for which you were last treated. This puts you, the patient (or your caregiver), in control of your follow-up appointments and gives you access to support and guidance when you need it most.

👉 Ask your clinician for more information and see if you are eligible!
