The aftermath & discussions in America around , , & order and safety (etc) after the devastatingly shocking murder of Iryna Zaruska are just as valid over there, as they are here in the UK,- albeit the UK having a slightly different set of difficulties, issues & complexities when it comes to how mental health is worked with; the conjunction/ cross over when legalities & crime is looked at through the lens of diagnosed/ undiagnosed ‘mental health problems’…
🖤
My heart goes out to the family of this young lady 😔 such great loss under completely unexpected, unprovoked circumstances whilst on public transport 💔 The traumatic, sudden circumstances surrounding her death will no doubt further compound, complicate & deepen their grief 😔
I also wonder what the story is behind the ‘perpetrators’ act of such violence 😔 It’s such a sensitive subject to see both as potential ‘victims’ of the society & world we are living in 🖤 Has the mental health system failed him? I ask myself… Could more have been done to ensure he wasn’t a risk to others (and in some scenarios/ circumstances to self also)?; so many questions- without answer(s) or perhaps none that are satisfactory or plausible in any case.
💔
What teachings can the UK take from this story? … Do we need to be more proactive, as opposed to reactive in not waiting for disaster to hit over & over before more attention is given to the UK’s mental heath system, ‘care in the community’ etc? I have always said it’s in need of some serious TLC & like the physical health system/ (NHS) in desperate need of an overhaul & adequate funding!
