Happy April 🌺

The beginning of a new month is a time of reflection for most; New Month goals are made, and for the majority, these goals aren’t always followed through.

Whether it be to lose weight, quit drinking or smoking, exercise more or get more sleep. I am sure most of us at some point have made one or more of these goals that are never fulfilled.

Which made me question why?
Is it that our lives are normally so hectic that we keep putting them off?
Let’s make April the month of you, the beginning of positively focusing on yourself.

We only get one body, so we have to take care of it.

🍷Infuse mint and cucumber in water - still or sparkling

🍷Infuse lemon in water - still or sparkling

🍷Fruit tea can be drank hot (or drink cold with lots of ice added)

🍷Green teas – all varieties allowed

🍷Any type of tea is allowed as long as it is brewed in a bag

🍷Coffee – flavoured coffees allowed from the likes of Beanies, Littles and Douwe Egberts

🍷1:1 Diet Golden Vegetable hot drink

🍷1:1 Diet water flavourings in still or sparkling water (pineapple, orange, raspberry & elderflower or lemon & lime)

🍷Sweeteners – are allowed but tablet form only not powder form!

🍷No other slimming aid or slimming tablet is allowed to be taken alongside our products! This will be completely detrimental to your health and wellbeing.

🍷 You Booze, You Don’t Lose 🍷

It’s no secret that alcohol lowers your inhibitions and impairs your ability to make rational decisions. The most dangerous effect that drinking can have on getting in shape is not the alcohol itself but the intoxication that comes with it.

It’s an all-too-familiar story: You spend all week carefully monitoring your diet and making good choices, and come Friday night you have a few drinks and next thing you know you’re going face-first into a plate of salty snacks (so long, diet).

And lest we forget, alcohol itself contains calories (7 per gram, which is less than fat but more than carbs and protein). A shot of clear liquor will run you about 80 to 90 calories on average, while fruity drinks or heavy beers like IPAs can exceed 200.

Further, people eat about 30 percent more food when they consume alcohol, possibly because alcohol interferes with satiety or simply because it makes your judgment fuzzier about whether or not you should now order the cheese platter or get a kebab on the way home.

WHEN ALCOHOL IS IN YOUR SYSTEM, IT'S HARDER FOR YOUR BODY TO BURN THE FAT THAT IS ALREADY THERE.

Alcohol is a major metabolism enemy. Once alcohol enters the body, our metabolism immediately begins using that as fuel. This means our body stops metabolising other fuel sources which can lead to increased fat storage.

While committed to a plan like The 1:1 Diet you have to ask yourself, after so many days of hard work, is it worth it?

Not just a recent craze, the ketogenic diet was developed about 100 years ago as a treatment for epilepsy, and bodybuilders were using it to lose fat back in the 1950s!

Some people glorify it, and others call it a dangerous fad. So, what’s the truth?

Firstly, what is a keto diet?
A ‘keto’ diet - sometimes called a “Very-Low-Carbohydrate Diet”, a “Ketogenic Diet” or “Atkins” – is a diet that causes your body to produce a certain level of ketones through dramatically reducing your carb intake and once you reach this level, you are in “ketosis”.

Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.
Sometimes overlooked as a form of exercise, walking briskly can help you build stamina, burn excess calories and make your heart healthier.
You do not have to walk for hours. A brisk 10-minute daily walk has lots of health benefits and counts towards your recommended 150 minutes of weekly exercise.

Before you start 💧
Any shoes or trainers that are comfortable, provide adequate support and do not cause blisters will do.
If you're walking to work, you could wear your usual work clothes with a comfy pair of shoes and change shoes when you get into work.
For long walks, you may want to take some water, healthy snacks- we have a great range with the 1:1 Diet, a spare top, sunscreen and a sun hat in a small backpack.
If you start going for longer walks regularly, you may want to invest in a waterproof jacket and some specialist walking shoes for more challenging routes.

How do I know if I'm walking fast enough?
A brisk walk is about 3 miles an hour, which is faster than a stroll.
You can tell you're walking briskly if you can still talk but cannot sing the words to a song.
You could also try using the free Active 10 app on your smartphone.
It tells you when you're walking fast enough and suggests ways to fit in some more brisk walking.

Staying motivated✨
Make it a habit
The easiest way to walk more is to make walking a habit.
Think of ways to include walking in your daily routine.
Examples include:
* walking part of your journey to work
* walking to the shops
* using the stairs instead of the lift
* leaving the car behind for short journeys
* walking the kids to school
* doing a regular walk with a friend
* going for a stroll with family or friends after dinner
If you live in a city, Walkit has an interactive walk planner to help you find the best walking route.
Each suggested route includes your journey time, calorie burn, step count and carbon saving.

Listen to music 🎶
Walking while listening to music or a podcast can take your mind off the effort.
It can also get you into a rhythm and help you walk faster.

Add variety to your walks. You do not have to travel to the countryside to find a rewarding walk.

Walking in a group is a great way to start walking, make new friends and stay motivated.

It’s been a fabulous Christmas, a brilliant Boxing Day but who else is bloated, lethargic, slightly hungover?

For those of you who are planning on coming off plan for special events through the festive system, here are a few tricks to keep feeling your best when things are so crazy.

✨ Drinks: limit them, and stick to spirits with low calorie mixers or soda water. Keep away from cocktails, as they can be equivalent in cals and carbs as donuts! Also avoid Beer, cider and if you drink wine made it a spritzer wth soda water and ice!

✨Balance is key, stop making it all or nothing!

Don’t you dare doubt yourself and your ability to change.
Don’t even try and talk yourself out of it!
Why?

Because food doesn’t have to control you anymore!!
It is 100% possible to rebuild a brand new relationship with food, retrain the brain to eat without feeling restricted...... you’ve just got to be ready to go on the journey!

How many of us have said, ‘oh I’ll just wait til after Christmas and the new year. There is no point now as I know I’m going to be ‘bad’ anyway’........ Why? So you can sit down in January, feel sorry for yourself, possibly 1-2 stone heavier and beat yourself up even more than you do now?

Do you understand this vicious cycle we have become apart of?
The constant torment, the amount of tears we’ve cried!
I was that girl too. ‘Why can’t I just do it? / I’ll never be happy / worthless / unloved / disgusting!’
