As it approaches 8pm our day staff are winding down and we welcome a fresh faced night staff team.

Today has been filled with reminiscing, a coffee morning, a knit & natter group, delicious meals and afternoon cake! All while our night staff sleep in preparation for their shift tonight.

Nights will start with an in-depth handover from the day staff. They will then carry out personal care tasks, make cups of hot drinks for those ladies and gents who are fellow night owls. Enjoy many conversations with others. As people eventually settle into bed and drift off to sleep our team can carry out some cleaning of the larger communal areas.

Our ladies and gents have their preferences of night time routines.. If someone would like a bath at 11pm and a sandwich at midnight that is absolutely up to them and the team are only too happy to assist.

Here are some photos of a few of tonight night shift.. We really appreciate you! 🥰🥰

Music has many benefits for mental health by reducing stress and anxiety. It has the ability to improve mood and help with emotional expression. We use tambourines at The Fleet to allow this freedom. Music helps with focus and memory as people recall songs they used to love and enjoy.

Over the last week we have welcomed Luc Walpot a local harpist, Patrick Jervis and Juke Box Duo!

Yesterday had a wonderful turn out for the community Knit & Natter. The ladies were proudly showing off some of their completed items that will be sent off to hospital for the newborns 🥰

Today's Chairobics hosted by Yvonne had everyone energised. It's important to keep active. If we don't use it, we run the risk of losing it 🥰

This afternoon we were treated to a performance from Tim on his keyboard playing popular songs across the decades for everyone to sing along too.

Many thanks to our activities of Amy, Gareth & Kitty who ensure each day is filled with something stimulating for our ladies & gents to participate in.

This photo was captured around 7.20 this morning.

Our day shift are beginning to arrive early into work for a 12 hour shift ahead of them. Relieving the duties of our marvelous night team who work hard through the night to ensure loved ones are safe as they sleep.

We are so thankful for the hard work of our entire workforce.

Flower arranging this morning and then The Fleet Voices choir in the afternoon.

As a group we were all treated to a musical interlude from Theo who gave a performance on the piano.

The team really does encourage our ladies and gents to showcase their individual talents.

Snippet into how we spent today!

Wouldn't be a Thursday if we didn't head downtown and participate in the Dartmouth Dawdle!

Today just happens to be World Dictionary Day and the dynamic duo of Kitty & Amy came up with a great game to test everyone's grey matter. They provided a sheet to each individual and then read out the dictionary definitions. The hunt was on to scan through all the words to find the right one that corresponded to the definition.

An hour to chill before suppers arrived from the kitchens. Tonight's menu was homemade tomato soup, Pate on toast served with a chutney and to finish was homemade crunch treacle tart with a dollop of clotted cream... *Chefs Kiss*

Our ladies and gents will sleep well tonight for sure.

Halloween plans are under way.. Announcements coming soon

After an exceptional lunch of Hake (with a pesto crumb)or Ratatouille filling our bellies, we certainly needed to unwind and relax with the soothing sounds of Joe Dostal on the acoustic guitar.

Joe visits us each month and has done for around a year now. We love his laid back and chilled approach. Joe strums away at his guitar and we love trying to guess the song within the first few chords. He uses a loop peddle to give his music a different dimension.

Joe plays in several bands and gigs all over the southwest. Bands including the fabulous 'Footloose' who have played mainstage at Regatta and Music festival. He is also a local guitar teacher and teaches many of the local young talent we have in the town.

Tone up Tuesday means that it's our weekly Chairobics session with Yvonne Cottam!

Whilst waiting for others to arrive in The Cove, Yvonne was telling us of her other commitments. We were blown away with what she gets up too. Her interests include Swimming , Playing Tennis, Enjoying Pickle Ball, Walking Rugby, Fundraising for local charities. At the weekend she was planting hedges over in Bigbury. She really is a local legend and we are so thankful for the time she dedicates to us at The Fleet with these chair based exercise sessions and of course our Dartmouth Dawdle on a Thursday.

World would be a far better place if we were all a bit more Yvonne 🥰🥰

Love sharing these really special moments.

It's really important to is to learn about each of our ladies and gents and how their past has influenced their lives. On discovering Stella was a dancer and a former Ballet teacher we were only too keen for her to demonstrate her skills and to put on a small performance.

We think Jane was a perfect student and they both smashed it! If only Strictly Come Dancing had a ballet week! It's a 10 from us 🥰
