This afternoon Kitty hosted an afternoon of baking! On the menu were cookies and cupcakes,,, just had to make and bake them first lol

This brought back so many memories for the ladies of baking desserts for their families, for various fetes and Women's Institute events. They were certainly excited to taste the results of their efforts.

Chef Mags was only too happy to pop them in the oven. The pressure was on to get the perfect bake! We didn't want any 'soggy bottoms'. Ever the professional Mags nailed it, Mary Berry would have certainly approved!

After tasting a few, the ladies wanted to share their treats amongst their friends and the staff! How lovely 🥰🥰

If the ladies are taking requests I'd suggest flapjack and lemon drizzle for their next baking class ... Yum!

Dartmouth is alive and full of excitement as the 180th Royal Regatta is in full swing! We were talking about fond memories of years gone by and a stand out part of the celebrations were the firework displays to open & close the Regatta. This inspired us to enjoy some colouring in.

Colouring in can offer a variety of benefits primarily in stress reduction and mindfulness. Engaging in colouring can have the potential to slow the heart rate and even reduce anxiety. It serves as a creative outlet, improving focus, fine motor skills and even help with sleep quality.

The ladies are really proud of their pictures!

Keeping on with the firework theme Kate used the interactive table to create her own firework display using an app. If you touch the screen it will set off a burst of fireworks and if you were to drag your finger across the screen it sets off a rocket. It amused the group to have our own indoor display! Technology is just fabulous

After this morning's torrential downpour we were all rather thrilled to welcome back the glorious sunshine! A few of us decided to venture outside into the gardens and really appreciate just how beautiful everything is looking!

We are excited for our tomato's to ripen so we can enjoy some of them with a salad. Our herbs are thriving and we still have broad beans growing.

As always we need to thank Sue, Sarah and our volunteers for investing time in our outdoor spaces because having these gardens really do add to our ladies & gents quality of life.

Trip down memory lane with some great books and the help of our weekly Daily Sparkle Magazine. Was lovely to have a small gathering in The Cove this morning and to reflect over the years gone by.

Ruth the hairdresser was around and our coffee morning provided some interesting conversations as our ladies and gents waited patiently for their weekly pamper session.

As always Catherine in the kitchen had been busy and treated people this week to some 'birthday cake' and some Biscoff cake bites! Our ladies and gents gave them 10/10

An improvised Karaoke session this afternoon as sadly the entertainer we had booked was unable to make it this afternoon. The team of Chris and Angela gave it a real good go! John was an exceptional talent as always and took the lead on most of the singing. He can have a job on the activities team if he likes! John filled in the moments of silence by singing a variety of sing a longs such as 'side by side' 'que sera sera'

Yesterday we hosted the usual Monday Coffee Morning up on our MacBride unit where friends can all gather for hot drinks and biscuits. Hosting events around the building provides opportunity for others to participate and form new friendships. Jane & Gareth were the hosts and engaged people in many different conversations.

The afternoon was our regular knit & natter. Gil and her gang of friends all turned up armed with their knitting needles, wool & knitting patterns and ready to get going on the various projects they have started.

The knit & natter always welcomes new members. Gil and the gang are always on hand to start a person off and even to teach complete novices who have never tried it before. If you have no desire to knit you'd still be welcomed with open arms as the nattering is the most important bit!

A rare sight! All four of our fabulous Admin & Reception team!

The reception team are headed up by our own Lizzie Callan. These ladies are often the face of The Fleet and are a friendly face to welcome you into our service. They are only too happy to make you a drink and provide you with delicious cakes in our Cove Bistro. If you also phone us they will be the friendly voices you hear to answer any queries.

From left to right we have Carol, Karen, Lizzie and Sam 🥰

Hope you are all having a fabulous day!

Our ladies and gents have just tucked into a delicious Roast Chicken dinner and enjoyed peaches, jelly & cream for dessert.

What have you enjoyed for lunch? or got planned for this evening's meal?

A right mix of fun activities today up on MacBride!

Started the day thinking about Dartmouth Regatta and brainstormed a load of words and things we associate with it. Thanks to the interactive table we managed to find some footage of Dartmouth and Regatta activities from years gone by which prompted more memories.

Katie helped cut out some bunting to jazz up the dining room. Decorations always make things a little bit more interesting and pretty.

We enjoyed singing as a group using our karaoke machine. Just before lunch arrived we used the whiteboard to get our minds working and listed many many items found in a Green Grocer. What a fab selection of veg & fruits everyone came up with.

This afternoon with Ann back from a family outing we learnt about some of her exciting travels around the world. Using technology we could enjoy some 'armchair travel' and explored walking up the Sydney Harbour Bridge and what it would be like to fly up in a Hot Air Balloon.

Staff enjoyed some quality time with our wonderful Jean as they played Triominoes together in her room. Jean is excellent at this!

We were truly excited to welcome Luc Walpot to The Fleet!

Luc is a well known Harpist all around Torbay and South Devon and we were thrilled that he had space in his busy diary to come visit us. Luc brought such a calmness to our Cove Bistro as he played a collection of classical and more modern pieces.

We are truly thankful to Luc for having a flexible approach and kindly visiting some individuals in their bedrooms who appreciate music but might not be comfortable in larger group settings. Luc makes his music accessible for all.

We are delighted to confirm we have Luc booked in for more dates all the way up to the end of the year!

Many thanks to the team at Sainsburys Dartmouth for this exceptionally generous donation of all these flowers!

Due to their kindness we were able to run a last minute flower arranging class hosted by our fab volunteer gardeners Sue & Sarah.

This activity was really popular and our whole Cove Bistro was full! This is truly wonderful that activities that we host are enjoyed by our ladies & gents and their loved ones!

Flower arranging benefits individuals by providing physical activity, improving fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and engaging cognitive functions like planning and decision-making. It also offers significant psychological benefits, including stress reduction, mood enhancement, and a sense of accomplishment and creativity. Additionally, it fosters social interaction in group settings and provides a connection to nature, improving overall well-being.

There were so many vases filled with stunning floral arrangements and the activities team of Kitty & Chris went around The Fleet and displayed the creations in people's bedrooms and other communal areas!

Once again, a huge thank you to Sainsburys for their donation of flowers! We love our community
