Always ask and if you're not sure, ask again.

In the UK, if food has been prepared and is sold on the same premises, but isn't in closed packaging, Natasha's Law doesn't apply; there is no legal obligation to list the full ingredients. ASK everything you need to know to be able to make an informed decision, but if you're still unsure, it's best to leave it.

Cafe's and restaurants may change the ingredients in their dishes, even those you may have eaten safely on numerous occasions. Never feel ashamed or embarrassed to keep asking the questions that are important to you.

These may include:
- What exactly are the ingredients/allergens?
- How do you clean kitchen utensils and equipment?
- Are your kitchen staff and trained in food allergen management?
- Do you use the same fryers for chips as for other foods?
- What cooking oils do you use and if it's a mix of vegetable oils, can you list them?
- What are your allergen kitchen safety practices?
- How do you mitigate against food cross-contact?
- Do you have designated 'allergen-free' prep and cooking areas?

If you are served a dish that you can see contains your allergen, when you return it, make sure they send you a brand new plate of food. We have heard of many instances where staff will simply wipe the allergen off the plate and then return it to the customer. It's best to keep your plate of food until you are given a new one.

Always speak to the restaurant manager or even better to the the chef as well, before ordering food, so you can determine if you or your child can safely eat there.

You are NOT an annoyance, you are a paying customer and you have a right to find out the information you require, to be safe.
