It’s Ask a Question Day, so let’s tackle 5 of the most common ones I hear in the clinic:

1️⃣ Does sports massage hurt?

Sometimes it can be a little uncomfortable, but it should never be unbearable. You’re always in control, and the more you communicate with me about how the session is feeling the more we can tweak things to ensure you get the maximum benefit.

2️⃣ Do I need to be an athlete?

Not at all! Most of my clients are just everyday people wanting to move and feel better.

3️⃣ What should I wear?

Shorts and a sports bra or t-shirt/vest work great. Comfort is key.

4️⃣ How often should I come?

This depends on your lifestyle. Some come monthly for maintenance, others more often when training hard.

5️⃣ Will I be sore after?

Maybe a little, like after a workout, but it usually eases within 24–48 hours.

One of the most common things clients say after a session?

“I slept like a log last night!” 💤

Massage doesn’t just ease tight muscles;

it helps calm your nervous system, lower cortisol (your stress hormone) and boost serotonin levels, which all support better quality rest. 😴

When your body feels safe, relaxed and pain-free, it’s much easier to switch off and stay asleep.

You don’t have “bad posture”,

more than likely you’re just staying stuck in one position for too long. 🙈

We’ve all been told to sit up straight like it’s the magic fix for back pain.

But the truth is, sitting bolt upright for hours can cause just as many niggles as slouching like a sack of spuds.

It’s not about finding the perfect posture;

it’s about moving more often. 🤸🏼

So wiggle, stretch, shift about a bit.

Your body likes variety (and a brew break doesn’t hurt either). ☕️

Massage can help ease any built-up tension;

but regular movement is what keeps you feeling good between sessions.

Massage is brilliant for recovery, relaxation, and sorting out those tight, achey bits...

but there are a few occasions where it might be wise for you to rebook or for us to tweak your session slightly.

Here’s why:

🚫 You’ve got a fever or infection

Your body is already fighting hard. Massage could make you feel worse.

🚫 You have a skin condition or open wound

If you have broken skin, rashes or a contagious issue, we might need to reschedule your appointment to allow time for things to settle.

🚫 You’ve had surgery or a recent injury

If you’re still in that acute stage and your injury is red, swollen or painful, it is best to wait. Once you're further into recovery, massage can be a game-changer, but it’s important not to book into too soon!

🚫 You’re unwell or feeling rough

Cancel and reschedule. No one wants germs on the massage table, and you’ll get more benefit when you’re feeling better.

🚫 Pregnancy (first trimester)

I don’t offer pregnancy massage in the early weeks. If you're later along and want a treatment, let's chat and check it's safe for you.

🚫 Certain medical conditions

Things like deep vein thrombosis, some cancers,or serious heart issues can make massage unsafe without medical go-ahead.

It’s always about keeping you safe and making sure your treatment does more good than harm. 🤩

Your body gives you plenty of warning signs…

tension that won’t shift, dodgy sleep, snapping at everyone, slower recovery after training or even picking up niggles and knocks more often. ⚠

Whether you’ve pushed too hard at the gym, rolled an ankle on a run, or pulled something doing DIY;

sports massage can play a vital role in recovery by improving circulation, breaking down scar tissue, and speeding up healing.

I’ll work with you to assess where you’re at and what your body needs most while keeping it safe and effective.

And if I don’t think massage is right for you just now, I’ll make some reccomendations for your next steps.
