Just letting you all know that the office will be open slighter later than normal today. I have to take my daughter to the doctors for 9am and as we know the traffic is horrendous so I’m having to go straight there from home.

Tonight I delivered my “One Punch” talk to the Turton Young Farmers group at The Barlow.

I was asked to do this as some of the people there are coming into drinking age.

I explained what I do, why I do it and the reasons behind my talk.

I think it was received well. Everyone sat quietly and listened to what I had to say so hopefully some of it has gone in and will stay with them.

Just received this beautiful message after today’s funeral.

Honestly it’s messages like this that really make my heart smile.

I always try my best for every family I look after but sometimes a reminder that I’m doing a good job really refreshes me and gets rid of any doubt I may be feeling.

So honoured to do what I do. It’s not a job - it’s my calling 💕

Here’s a bit of information for you guys as a lot of people don’t seem to know this.

There are lots of tv adverts by one particular company at the moment about funerals with no service - they outline how today’s funerals include unnecessary things like a hearse (which are very necessary if you’re having an attended funeral).

Basically what they are advertising is what’s known as a Direct Cremation. This is an unattended funeral which is considerably cheaper than a “proper” funeral.

What most people don’t realise is - almost all
Of your local funeral directors actually carry out these types of funerals. You don’t need to go to an online company for this type of funeral to be undertaken.

I carry out quite a lot of direct cremations now. Sometimes this is due to the cost and sometimes this is because it’s the wishes of the person who has passed away.

The care whilst your loved one is resting here with me would be exactly the same as what is given to someone who is having a full attended funeral. The only difference is the type of funeral they are having.

I can do direct cremations either at Pleasington or Accrington.

Accrington - £1500

Charles Carus died peacefully at home on the 8th September 2025.

Charles’ funeral will take place at Pleasington Crematorium on Monday 22nd September at 12pm.

On September 10, 2001, people went to bed for what was a normal, uneventful day before the September 11th attacks. Many were preparing for their routines, whether that was for an early flight, a shift as a firefighter or police officer, or their regular workday in buildings like the World Trade Center. None could have known that the next morning would bring a tragic and world-altering event.
