Prostate cancer has been in the news a lot lately, and it hits close to home for many of us. That's why I'm taking part in March the Month, walking 11,000 steps every day to honour the 11,000 dads, husbands, brothers, uncles, granddads, partners, and friends we lose to this disease each year.

I would be really grateful for even the smallest donation to help support, motivate and raise awareness for this important cause.

Front-Loading Your Diet: What Does The Science Say?

After speaking to Kylie Bates from Sweat Fit, we discussed the benefits of front-loading, eating more in the mornings and less as the day goes along unlike the traditional way of eating with a heavy meal at the end of the day.

The adage "Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper" has been around for a while, but does it have any scientific backing? The concept of front-loading your calories–eating your largest meal earlier in the day and gradually tapering off might offer some benefits for weight management and overall health.

How Front-Loading Aligns with Your Body
Our bodies follow a circadian rhythm, influencing our metabolism and energy processing. Eating primarily in the earlier part of the day aligns with peak metabolic activity. This also tends to work in harmony with our natural digestive processes and sleep cycles.

Scientific Evidence: What the Research Suggests
While more research is always welcome, existing studies indicate some potential benefits of front-loading calories:

Appetite and Satiety: A study published in the journal Cell Metabolism found that participants who ate a larger breakfast experienced less hunger and felt more satiated throughout the day, potentially reducing cravings.

Blood Sugar Control: Front-loading may contribute to better blood sugar regulation, minimising insulin spikes often associated with consuming larger meals later in the day. This could be especially relevant for those with prediabetes or diabetes.

Weight Management: While not a guaranteed weight-loss strategy, some research, like a study in the International Journal of Obesity, suggests that front-loading calories could support weightloss efforts or make maintaining a healthy weight easier.

Sleep Improvement: Avoiding heavy, late-night meals is often recommended for improved sleep quality. Good sleep is crucial to managing hormones that influence both appetite and healthy weight.

⭐ Mindset Monday ⭐

What does this all mean? Well, most new changes take 66 days to become a habit 🤯BUT most individuals only try for 2 weeks before they give up because established habits are easy and new habits are hard. E.g. reaching for chocolate 🍫 after a long day is perceived as easy whereas putting on gym gear 🏃 is perceived as hard.

So How Do I Fix It? - Make the bad habits hard and the good habits easy. Put the chocolate in the freezer 🥶, if you really want that chocolate - you will wait for it! Lay your gym gear out in the morning 🌅 so it is ready for when you finish work making less resistance.

Read on for Theory....

Knowledge: A person has knowledge about healthy eating habits and the benefits of exercise for weight loss. This forms the base for change.

Received Rewards: Past experiences may have created associations. For instance, comfort foods might be tied to feelings of reward or stress relief.

Fear of Consequences: Awareness of the health consequences of unhealthy habits increases motivation to change.

Good intentions: There's a genuine desire to lose weight and adopt healthier behaviours. This signals the presence of intention.

Attempt to Change: The person actively tries to change their eating and exercise behaviours. This is where the Theory of Planned Behavior kicks in—intention is being translated into action.

Pushing Back is Established Habits: Old habits linked to food and less activity are deeply ingrained. These offer resistance to change as they are familiar and often easier.

Distinguish Hunger from Hangry: Recognising Emotional Eating New blog post on the website: https://wix.to/iyoKbLc

We've all been there. Faced with a bad day, a tough emotion, or just a general feeling of "meh," our hands instinctively reach for the comfort of food. That tub of ice cream, bag of crisps, or plate of cookies promises temporary solace, a warm hug disguised in sugary goodness. But let's be honest, t...

Got a celebration coming up which may impact your food choices?
Feeling the “should I/shouldn’t I” guilt creeping in? Stop right there! Planned “off-plan” days are NOT failures, they’re strategic steps towards a sustainable and enjoyable health journey.

1. Balance is key: Restricting yourself too much can lead to cravings and eventual binges. Planned indulgences honor your desires, preventing deprivation and promoting long-term success.

2. Food freedom, not food fear: Guilt and shame around food create a negative relationship. Enjoying treats mindfully with no moral judgment fuels self-compassion and a healthier approach.

3. Nourish your body and mind: Including your favorite foods (even in moderation) can boost your mood and motivation, making healthy choices easier in the long run.

4. Planning prevents pitfalls: Cravings hit hard in the moment. Planning allows you to choose healthier alternatives or smaller portions, minimising the impact on your goals.

5. Progress, not perfection: Life happens! Planned “off-plan” days are temporary detours, not derailments. Get back on track the next day without judgment.

Remember: Treat days are about mindful enjoyment, not perfection. Choose options that fit your goals, savor the experience, and move forward with self-compassion. You’ve got this!
