"To feel deeply, intimately, we must first listen deeply, intimately.

Listening deeply is the start of creating compassionate relationship. It's how we learn to heal ourselves; our communities.

It's how we empower ourselves; each other.

Deep listening is not about fixing others. It's about allowing the listening space to be filled with presence and reverence.

It's about 'this moment: right here, right now', however we find ourselves. Whatever we feel.

Can you be with another's pain and joy?

Can you 'be' with yourself?

We cannot start this journey without first cultivating honest reflection. Not fantasy created by the crazy head. No fanciful theories and explanations.

Just sitting still, observing and feeling the currents that flow through our bones. Our being."

Extract from 'Foraging as an Act of Reverence', written by Robin Harford.

I heard Robin recite the whole piece recently as an introduction to a talk at a food and literature festival. His words had a particular resonance as an approach we could all adopt to not only respecting and listening to others, but also respecting and revering the natural world around us.

EDIT - due to summer weekend availability issues for core group members, we will be making the most of available daylight and holding the farm-based circles on weekday evenings.

The next Circle will take place on Tuesday 11th June. Further dates to be confirmed.

Calling all magnificent, mindful men. We need you. Well.. we don't need you so much as want you. We want to welcome you to experience, just as we have, the benefits and the camaraderie of our Mindful Men's Circle. A safe, non-judgemental space where we exchange mutual support, open conversation, swap skills, share wisdom, offer companionship, encourage calm and reflection, make a noise, and generally do fun stuff.

We are a motley crew of males who have enjoyed being part of a loose collective for some time now, with its origins in the sacred yurt space at the inspirational Sol Haven. Gradually the gathering has evolved to take itself out into nature and has now found its monthly home around the campfire at Hideaway Wood Farm in Dodford NN7.

The farm gatherings will generally run from 9:30 until 11:30 on Saturday mornings and will feature a local facilitator from within or through close association with the group who will guide us in an exercise to encourage mindfulness, improve mental wellbeing, learn new practical skills, or all of the above!

Between the monthly farm gatherings, and subject to everyone's availability, weekend walks in nature or other social meet ups are organised on an ad-hoc basis.

What sets the gatherings apart from purely social events is the time that is always set aside for the sharing circle. The Circle can be the most powerful and rewarding element to our meetings. Sharing is not compulsory but each one of us has found it transformational to speak openly from our hearts amongst strangers, who have very quickly become a band of brothers.

Each one of us in our time has known either loss, loneliness, depression, relationship breakdown, or a lack of drive or sense of purpose, and each one of us has benefitted hugely from the power and support of the Circle.

Men have felt for generations that they need to 'stay strong' and keep any struggles silent, but there is great strength to be found in both owning and sharing your vulnerabilities with those that care enough to listen.

For all the good that the Circle provides in the form of tribal counselling, there is nothing more therapeutic than fun, and the group is very much alive with self expression, banter, music and occasionally song.

If we can encourage more men to be brave, to speak their truth, to escape their bullsh*t, swallow their pride, open their hearts and be the best authentic versions of themselves, then we might just create the right role models for the future generations of magnificent men to come.
