โœ‹Itโ€™s Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

This yearโ€™s theme, set by eating disorder charity Beat , focuses on the power of community and the vital role family, friends, and other support networks play in helping someone feel supported, understood, and never alone on their journey from seeking help to undergoing treatment and beyond.โค

๐Ÿ“In Northamptonshire, our Eating Disorder Service (for 18+) and Children and Young Peopleโ€™s Community Eating Disorder Service, support people aged 5 and above, along with their families and carers, to help them recover safely.

Throughout the week, our teams will be sharing helpful information and guidance on where to find more support.

๐Ÿ—จ What is an eating disorder?
Eating disorders are complex mental health illnesses affecting people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and backgrounds. They involve disordered eating behaviours, which may include:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Restricting the amount of food eaten
๐Ÿ‘‰ Eating large quantities of food in one go
๐Ÿ‘‰ Trying to get rid of food through unhealthy behaviours (such as making yourself sick, misusing laxatives, fasting, or excessive exercise)
๐Ÿ‘‰ A combination of these behaviours

Itโ€™s important to remember that eating disorders are not all about food itself, but about feelings. An eating disorder is never the fault of the person experiencing it, and anyone who has an eating disorder deserves compassionate support to help them get better.

If you are worried about yourself or someone you care about, support is available:
โญSpeak to your GP to discuss your concerns
โญ Visit Beat Eating Disorders for advice and support: www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/
โญExplore our Eating Disorders webpage for more advice and guidance: www.nhft.nhs.uk/eating-disorders

Youโ€™re never alone in seeking help, and support is always within reach.
