We have been trained by the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers as Peer Supporters, have enhanced DBS checks and Safeguarding training. An IBCLC is in weekly attendance. DBSG is an inclusive group. The group runs solely on per

sonal donations and relevant funding or grants from other organisations. All monies received are invested into the group and no individual person receives any monetary recompense for their services to the group. Deal Breastfeeding Support Group exists as a group of parents who want to help other families to make informed choices about the way in which they feed their children – from the first hours through to independent childhood. This week is Black Breastfeeding Week 2025, at DBSG we acknowledge how important this week is to amplify black voices and help shine a light on the massive inequalities black and brown families face in the breastfeeding world, from access to support ; representation in media, to education on what breastfeeding issues look like on non-white skin.

As volunteers we acknowledge we may have a different lived experience from our black counterparts and strive to learn and listen to improve our understanding of what it can be like for black and brown parents and support all families to the best of our abilities.

Where possible this week we will be sharing information to our stories if you’d like to learn more also.

Time is running out to submit a nomination for the Kent Mental Wellbeing Awards 2025 - so tell us how you support your staff or client wellbeing.

This year's Kent Mental Wellbeing Awards includes the themes of kindness and compassion, wellbeing and mental health - so businesses, schools, charities, statutory bodies and community groups should consider submitting nominations focusing on their initiatives linked to wellbeing, as well as communication campaigns with a wellbeing theme, your leaders and your fundraisers.

The judges are particularly keen to have nominations for the Wellbeing Space of the Year - linked to either outdoor or indoor reflective or calming areas such as nature areas. But are also keen to see su***de prevention initiatives as well as projects supporting groups such as veterans and groups or individuals supporting those with disabilities.

The awards celebrate the people, initiatives and organisations making a positive contribution towards the wellbeing of the workplace or community.

Staged by the mental health charity Mind in Bexley and East Kent and supported by a range of organisation including Kent County Council, Medway Council, Southeastern Railway, GrainLNG, Paramount Foundation, Kent Community Foundation - UK, CommunityAd Web Ltd, ADM Computing, Willowbank Education, Cactus Graphics, Blé Global and Ashford International Hotel & Spa.

The event will highlight the good ideas used daily across the county to assist with wellbeing in its broadest sense.

Of particular interest to the judges this year are examples of organisations involved in:

Su***de Prevention initiatives
Projects supporting disabled groups
Recognition of your Leadership and its support of wellbeing
Family wellbeing workshops
Pastoral care support
Wellbeing hubs or teams focused on wellbeing and mental health
Individual members of staff who lift the spirits of colleagues or clients / students
Nature areas that allow staff / clients / customers to relax, reflect and de-stress.
Outdoor gardens and allotments giving clients / students hands-on experience of growing plants.
Forest schools
Sensory gardens
Kindness campaigns or one off examples of kindness in the workplace or community
Who on your team is a ray of sunshine?

Organisations should also consider detailing how the staff or volunteers have helped projects to succeed as the judges also like to make awards to people making a difference with wellbeing - not just the initiatives themselves.

Submitting a nomination is easy, simply visit www.kentmentalwellbeingawards.org.uk
