Wellness Wednesday
We are all bad for neglecting ourselves as life can get busy. Do you know neglecting self-care means failing to prioritise your own physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It involves constantly putting the needs of others or daily responsibilities ahead of your health, resulting in exhaustion, burnout, increased stress, and a decline in your overall quality of life.
Recognising the signs and understanding the effects of neglecting self-care can help you regain balance and improve your well-being.
Common Signs to look out for are as follows:
🔸️Physical Exhaustion can be skipping meals, relying on caffeine or junk food, and consistently sacrificing sleep.
🔸️Emotional Detachment can be feeling numb, easily irritable, or hopeless.
🔸️Ignoring Health can include missing medical appointments, or avoiding routine check-ups.
🔸️Social Withdrawal can look like cancelling plans and having no energy left to engage in hobbies or socialising.
Like everything else in life it can have negative effect or impact on your daily life such as:
🔸️Burnout is being in state of physical and emotional exhaustion where it becomes hard to function or enjoy everyday life.
🔸️Mental Health can become worse which can make you become more vulnerable to anxiety and depression, which can have a knock on effect such as overthinking and increased risk of panic attacks alongside other symptoms everyone symptoms and experiences are different.
🔸️Impaired Focus which can include brain fog, difficulty concentrating, and reduced productivity at work or school.
🔸️Physical Illness can appear as frequent headaches, stomach issues, and a weakened immune system due to stress.
There are many ways to address it and always remember you are never alone and help is available whether that be from professionals, family or friends.
You can turn things around by starting small by incorporating tiny, manageable habits into your day, like a 5-minute walk, staying hydrated, or taking deep breaths.
By setting boundaries this can be learning to say "no" to extra commitments when you are feeling overwhelmed.
Scheduling yourself some "Me Time". Treat your self-care routines as non-negotiable appointments on your calendar. This can be getting your hair done or your nails or whatever self-care activity you enjoy.
Ask for help or seek support when required not just when you are feeling stuck, consider exploring resources on the internet or speaking with a mental health professional to help you build healthier habits.
I know this too well as I have experienced anxiety and depression over numerous years and I have fell back into these habits over the years. I try to practice what I preach but as you are all well aware life can throw you curveballs and set backs.
The main thing to remember is you are strong and you have overcome many struggles and battles over the years. It might not seem like it but you will get through this one day at a time.
Life is a journey its about learning to ride the waves the good, the bad and the ugly. We are continuously learning and evolving on a daily basis. Take each experience as it comes and learn from it by asking yourself what has this taught me?
Remember you have to look after yourself and prioritise your self-care as no one can do it for you but you.
You are important, your health is important and remember you are valued as who you are as a person. No one is you and that is your strength and super power.
What have you done for yourself today that made you smile or feel better about yourself?.
I will start I got my hair cut and nails done which I haven't done in months and I feel better for it.
