RECOVERY ππ₯΄π₯΄
Those of you who know me well will know that since September I've been struggling with some significant lower back pain. Rather than caused by a trauma or accident this pain came on slowly and increasingly got worse!
Certain movements were fine, but any time I bent to touch my toes I was in quite a lot of pain. It started with not being able to deadlift heavy, then hip thrust and got to the point where in October I couldn't even pick up 8kg dumbbells off the floor. It hurt when I slept, gamed, playing guitar... All the time! Over the space of a couple of weeks I had gone from hip thrusting 250kg+ to not being able to bend over...
I couldn't work out what it was or what was causing it. With two sessions with the amazing osteopath Ross from we were able to work out that it was likely that a facet joint of my lumbar spine was aggravated which was what had been causing the pain. So glad I understood my body better!
Understanding a problem is not the same as fixing it, and I was determined to fix it. Mentally I was *not* in a good place without being able to train (or enjoy life)!
Steve performed regular mobility with me in the form of MET, myofascial release and deep tissue massages. This was AMAZING for my recovery and I came on leaps and bounds. I was never "injured", I had slowly developed a dysfunction through years of overcompensation between posterior and anterior muscles!
π This week was the first week I've deadlifted any significant kgs in 6 months, 120kg pictured, so happy π
I know so many people who experience pain on a regular basis. I know so many people who "train around" their pain instead of getting to the bottom of it. I know so many people who just assume that it's normal to ache as they get older. It is not the case! Dysfunction is not the same as injury, but it can be just as painful! Strongly urge anyone who struggles with 'niggles', aches and pains to see a professional like Ross or Steve!
