Healthy sexual development in young people.
It’s important to understand what healthy sexual development looks like in children as they grow.
Children’s sexual development is shaped by their environment, experiences and what they see. Children now are more likely to see or come across sexual images and videos at a younger age than their parents would have done. This can be through films, music videos or online, including po*******hy.

NSPCC have advice for parents and carers around healthy and unhealthy relationships.

Important advice shared from Child Accident Prevention Trust

Big coats, snowsuits and other bulky clothing feel warm and comforting when the cold weather creeps in, but they can be dangerous for your child in the car.
In a crash, those bulky layers compress under the force of the impact, creating slack in the harness or seatbelt. This reduces the effectiveness of the harness and increases the risk of serious injury.

National HIV Testing Week runs from 9 - 15 February 2026, encouraging people to take a simple, free and confidential HIV test. Early diagnosis means effective treatment, good long term health, and no risk of passing HIV on.
Across Derbyshire, Your Sexual Health Matters will be offering extra opportunities to test in community settings:
• Tuesday 10 February Derby University atrium , 11am-2pm
• Wednesday 11 February Ilkeston Market Place, 10am–12pm
• Thursday 12 February Chesterfield Royal Hospital, Main Reception, 1.30pm–2.30pm
• Thursday 12 February Staveley Healthy Living Centre, 3pm–6pm
• Monday 16 February Bakewell Market, 9.30am–12.30pm
If you can’t attend a drop in, you can order a free STI and HIV home test kit online.
National HIV Testing Week is led by HIV Prevention England, supporting local services to increase awareness, reduce stigma and make testing easy for everyone. By promoting local testing opportunities, we aim to make it as simple as possible for people across Derbyshire to get tested and know their status.
Know your status. Protect your health.

Coping with exam pressure
The pressure to do well can really get on top of you and only add to the existing stress of exams. It could be from your school, your family, your friends, or yourself. Even if the people around you aren’t putting pressure on you, you might still want to make them proud. But remember, no matter what your results, your mental health is important too.

It's normal to feel a bit worried about exams, but sometimes they can make you feel anxious or depressed. Find out how you can deal with exam stress.

A safety alert has been issued warning parents and carers not to use baby sleep pillows for under ones.

These soft pillows and cushions are often marketed for baby sleep or as somewhere for a baby to be left unsupervised. But this can cause suffocation or overheating, and babies have even died.

WARNING: Baby sleep pillows can be deadly

These soft pillows and cushions are often marketed for baby sleep or as somewhere for a baby to be left unsupervised. But this can cause suffocation or overheating, and your baby might even die.

Despite what some online product listings suggest, pillows are not recommended for babies until they are at least 12 months old. The safest place for your baby to sleep is on a clear, firm, flat surface.

Safer sleep in winter
Winter can be a challenging time for families. With the cost of living crisis and worries about heating our homes, it’s understandable to worry about keeping your baby warm. The recommended room temperature for a baby’s sleep space is 16 – 20°C. This can be harder to maintain when it’s cold outside.

While it can be tempting to wrap your baby up to keep them warm and cosy, it’s important to remember that it’s possible for them to overheat, and this increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). In fact, research has shown that babies are safer when they’re a little bit cooler, rather than too hot.

Use these guidelines for safer sleep for your baby in winter from The Lullaby Trust
