Proof that physiotherapists don’t just talk the talk – sometimes we limp the limp…
🏃♂️ At Accelerate Physiotherapy we have a special interest in helping runners stay injury-free, achieve their goals, and most importantly, keep runners running.
🥇 Leonie is the real runner in the team – she’s come 3rd at the Ramathon, won the White Peak Half Marathon, placed 5th at the Wilne 10km, and clocked a sub-18:30 5k, all less than a year after her second daughter!
👟 Me, I’ve never been a natural runner. I only started a few years ago for a variety of reasons, but mainly to understand first-hand the stresses and strains runners face. Leonie set me the challenge of tackling different distances so I could better support our running clients, both physically and mentally.
🔥 This year I’ve ticked off PBs in the 5k and 10k, completed my first half marathon at the Ramathon, and yesterday, somehow, my second ultra marathon at EQUINOX24.
💥 I’m proud (and more than slightly broken) to say I hit my target of 50 miles (80km). The photos tell the story: it started with smiles and waves, and ended with grimaces and limps. But that’s the beauty of running – the highs, the lows, and the grit it takes to get over the line.
😅 Of course, life threw in some extra challenges: work, a Master’s degree, life with two young children, my first Achilles injury, a badly sprained ankle three weeks ago, and a virus the week before (thanks nursery germs, as always). Runners never make it easy for themselves!
🏥 And yes, I’m back in clinic this afternoon… limping and regretting not booking the day off!

👏 Thanks to the Chesapeake crew for keeping our business running 🤣. It was great to see you all dig deep, put in the training, and come back to Equinox stronger than last year.
🌟 It was also brilliant to see so many of our friends and clients smashing their own goals (with some incredible 100km+ achievements!)
Special shout-outs
👑 Stuart Shipley & Louise Shipley – 150km (13th overall) & 70km (5th in age category): true running royalty. Stuart matched last year’s incredible tally by running non-stop for 24 hours, while Louise achieved an amazing 70km. Alongside me, they were also battling illness in the week leading up to – and even on the day of – the event, courtesy of their duties as proud (and very active) grandparents!
💪 Ben Patten – 100km: as a relatively new runner, it’s been a pleasure to support him and see him achieve this milestone. How he kept smiling despite the weather, I’ll never know!
⚡ Darren Knight – 100km: incredible effort after battling injuries. Having missed last year due to illness, it was inspiring to see him come back so strong.
🔧 – once again outstanding, overcoming challenges and problem-solving throughout the event.
🎯 – 50km: switched from the team event last year to solo this time, and despite some setbacks and niggles in the build-up, absolutely smashed it.
🔨 – 100km: improved on last year’s result despite managing injuries (and unrelenting DIY). Strong, smooth, and always in control out there.
🚀 Jamie Bell – 130km: what a performance! Looked completely at ease, and even threw in a 56-minute 10k on his 12th lap.
