One of my intentions for 2023 is to pull together a FAQ for my website, so I thought I'd kick off with the big one...What Is Counselling?
For anyone curious, here's a few sentences to explain the service I offer:
Counselling is a talking therapy that involves someone like me, a trained therapist, listening and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues.
Counsellors give you time and space to work through any problems, worries or negative behaviours without rushing you off a subject or passing judgement. The relationship is professional, caring and honest, presenting an opportunity to open up about things you may feel uncomfortable or unable to discuss with others.
Counsellors may help you develop tools and skills to support yourself through past or present difficulties, helping you manage future challenges with clarity and confidence.⠀
There are different ways of experiencing counselling, it can be face to face, over the phone, online, individual or in groups, each 'session' is around 50 minutes to an hour in length. In most cases, there's no set prescribed amount of counselling, it's based on individual needs.
And there are three main forms - Person Centered, Psychodynamic or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) but each one is going to need explaining in more depth in future posts!!!
Feel free to DM me any questions if I've missed something out that you want to know, or pop them in the comments below!
